The funniest thing to me is that we kvetch hardcore about our comic book movies dropping below 80% on the Rotten Tomatometer. Like if it scores 70+%, but not 80% or 90%, the movie has somehow failed us. Even if the reviews are mostly positive. Even if it's a massive crowdpleaser.
Basically, Marvel Studios and Nolan's Bat movies and the X-Men movies and Spider-Man have spoiled us rotten… in a good way. Other action franchises/big budget SFX spectacles… hell, even rom coms or comedies would be thrilled to match almost all of Marvel's RT scores, even Marvel's worst reviewed movie (TDW). Divergent, I'm sure, would love to see a higher RT score than it's getting. Same with Need for Speed and Pompeii.
I think there's quite a few of us that don't consider anything between 65%-79% the ideal. I do it too. I just think it's a funny way how comic book movies and their quality has increased so much over the past decade that, even if most of the reviews are positive, we'll still worry if that RT meter dips below a certain number.
