Captain America: Brave New World - News & Speculation Thread

With Betty, Leader and Ross this movie feels more like an Incredible Hulk sequel with Captain America making a guest appearance.

So an ”ok” to ”very solid” MCU movie is what for example… a mid to high 70’s on RT with an average rating of 6.5.

@MyTimeToShineH says, "The buzz I'm hearing about Captain America: Brave New World is that it's 'okay'—a classic three-star movie. Not great, not terrible, just serviceable."

Daniel Richtman, meanwhile, has said he's heard the movie is "meh."

It felt like Marvel had no confidence in Anthony Mackie taking over for Chris Evans and turned this into a Hulk sequel.

The writing has been pretty much on the wall with this one. Anthony Mackie deserved better.

They should've knocked the script out of the park for this one, and hire a proper action director.

Despite the writing on the wall I am tentatively excited to see this Saturday night.

Cap's my favorite corner of the MCU and I really want to see Mackie carry the shield over several more movies. "Good enough" could be enough to just enjoy my evening, and hopefully they make enough bank to produce a sequel where they can actually deliver.

This is sadly similar to how I felt with Falcon and Winter Soldier, where the right pieces were all there even if it didn't hang together all that well once it was wrapped up.

Congrats to Marvel for releasing their 35th movie I guess. But I haven't been this disinterested in a MCU film in a long time. And it doesn't help the next movie after this, is Thunderbolts...

Just okay is not gonna sit well with a lot of critics. The rotten tomatoes page of this movie will be interesting in the next few days.

It's gotten much harder for me to go see movies at the theater over the years. I had pretty low interest in this since the beginning. I do like Anthony Mackie, but wasn't really sure about Red Hulk. This is a movie I was waiting on WOM. Seems like I may wait for it to hit Disney Plus.

Not really interested in seeing this film at all, but I’m surprised at so many people using the reshoots as cause for concern. Reshoots are a pretty common thing for movies. I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy and it wasn’t until I listened to the commentary that I realized how much of those movies were reshoots. For example Legolas taking down the Olyphant in Return of the King was part of reshoots.

Knowing before hand that a movie had problems being put together and that it was constantly rewriting itself is in the back of people's heads and that affects the viewing experience, whether you like it or not.
I think we have waaaay too much information during the production of a movie, specially from Marvel. I honestly don't know how to skip that kind of stuff without *not accessing the internet at all*.
Scoopers are ruining the experience.

Different context. The reshoots for LOTR were scheduled well in advance. In the case of Cap 4 since it was such a cobbled together film in the first place, reshoots were most likely a knee-jerk reaction to what execs and/or test audiences didn't like.

Yeah I almost miss the way it was when I was a kid in relation to anticipating big movies. When Spider-Man was coming out in 2002 all I knew about that film was anything released officially. So just the trailers, tv spots, interviews, and merch. Interest in the film was 100% on the marketing department.

It all comes down to the extent and purpose of the reshoots.

Rogue One may be the only example of a movie which was heavily reshot and retooled after principal photography, and somehow came out well.

This movie stinks of a desperate push and pull by the studio.
