Captain America: Brave New World - News & Speculation Thread

And what does change look like when it comes to, the future of, Marvel?
A new president of Marvel Studios, perhaps changing the CCO position to a more standard head of production?

Basically bring in new people at the top.

It will be a nearly 20 year run by the time Secret Wars comes out. I think a new voice would rejuvenate the whole operation. There will be a new CEO in a couple years, its not unusual for them to hire their own people.

Last time we had a new CEO, we got Bob Chapek. A lot of where Marvel is at now is largely because of his mandate that Marvel pump out as many TV shows and movies as they could. So be careful what you wish for.
But it's going to happen, Iger's contract expires in December 2026 and he'll be 75. I think the plan was to see this contract through and retire (again).

Marvel definitely needs new blood.

And they need to put some good thought into getting genuinely talented new writers and directors for future movies.

You don't get the Cloverfield Paradox director (sorry) to direct the first movie for Sam Wilson as Captain America (in addition to the Falcon and the Winter Soldier writers).

It seems like they didn't have a character driven story for a Sam Wilson Captain America movie. All the plot is driven by events that happened in The Incredible Hulk, and seems like its a Hulk story that doesn't have The Hulk. And Sam has no real personal stakes involved in it.

I wonder how much of that is... Sam Wilson is not a lead character. He can't carry his own movie. Marvel doesn't seem to know what to do with him as Captain America. What is his arc? His story? "I am not Steve Rogers" Yeah, we know that, man. You can't hang your entire movie on the fact that you are in someone else's shadow.

Well, "I am not Steve Rogers... but who am I as Captain America?" is actually a pretty good premise.

Have it be a self exploration and at the same time our exploration of who he is and what makes him distinct as Cap throughout the movie.

The movie actually has a better take on Sam than the show did.
The show was about Sam coming to terms with what being Captain America means, and this one is about the pressures of being Captain America and what it does to Sam. Sam has some good scenes in here where he talks about not having the serum and having to push himself and not take breaks cause it gives people like him a seat at the table. It's actually not bad, but they could have done more with it at the same time

Thought it was okay, just a bit too generic and dull. Anthony Mackie was excellent and looking forward to seeing more of him in the MCU. Villains were a big letdown and Ford was good, but the recast was a bit jarring for me.

They definitely bit off more than they could chew

Disney needs to completely reassess how it makes movies. Directors for hire, too many screenwriters in the kitchen, months of reshoots, focus-group editing, overwhelmed VFX studios with tons of additional work thrown at them late in the game. It's not conducive to healthy artistry and storytelling.

The production budgets of these movies are getting stupid. $250 million - $300 million is objectively insane, especially when you almost never see this amount of money on screen. When you watch a Chris Nolan movie, you see every cent on display. Disney has gotten into the habit of spending huge sums of money on movies that ultimately look like video games, weightless and textureless and without depth, and they have to make $700 million just to break even. It's not sustainable.

Get through Secret Wars, start over and get back to the basics. Let Spider-Man, X-Men and Fantastic Four guide us into the next era and build back up.

"We will fix it in post" needs to be a last resort, and not the norm (for Marvel, its become a crutch). Don't greenlight production on a movie until the script is where it needs to be (who cares about arbitrary release dates that get pushed back anyway). Get directors who know what they want before they shoot and fully empower them.

Just saw it it isn’t as bad as some reviewers are saying but I do agree this really needed some ironing out…. They should have leaned into more of the Isaiah story instead of making it about Ross/ Hulk there were sprinkles of greatness that could have been but it just fell flat. I did enjoy the action more than I thought I would ….In the end was I entertained…. Yes I was but man when it gets boring it gets boring a solid 6/10

Could've gotten Aleksander Lukin, Isaiah Bradley and Nomad instead.

I think its simple. They need to reduce their annual releases including Disney+.

Its okay to have a miss every few years. But MCU didn't have a rotten film for their first 25 films. The Incredible Hulk and Dark World were the only one in the mid 60s.

Things really changed in the Disney+ era. It hasn't been 5 years since Eternals, and we got already three more poorly reviewed products ‐ Quantumania, Secret Invasion and Brave New World. Echo and The Marvels are also to close to a rotten rating.

Also they can't really keep up this 3 movies + 3 to 4 shows per year (including animation) and keep everybody interested. A lot of people are just gonna cherry pick what they want to see the most, especially in cinemas and skip the rest.

I really enjoyed this guys! Its not GREAT, its like a solid 90s political action thriller (i have a weakness for those kind of films). I actually thought Red Hulk was in it JUST the right amount and the build up to him was great and so was the battle.

I am very RELIEVED!
(I have the same weakness.)
Sounds like what I expected.
LFG!

Its a good time, man, I stand by that. Yes, I could easily see people picking apart the script but its also a really straightfoward story. I was expecting a mess of a story with all the reshoots.

Well shang chi and brave new world was below 200 million.
Shang chi 150 million and brave new world 180 million.
Most films in phase 4 was 200 million and below and some films phase 5 as well.

Then there is this.

I recommend watching it with low expectations. I did and had a great time.

I admit I got scared at first, cause the first scene of the movie has very terrible editing. Luckily, it got much better after that.

Sam Wilson is Captain America. He absolutely embraces it here. I can't wait to see him leading the new Avengers.

Joaquín is far from the annoying comedy relief side kick people were expecting. The few jokes he has or is involved with, I feel most definitely worked "don't say Ant-Man" 😂
He really feels like Sam's (unexperienced) protegee.

Harrison Ford makes the role his own. Less is more definitely applies here for Red Hulk.

If there's a scene I would've changed is (Big spoiler warning) Having old man Steve showing up to give Sam the pep talk instead of Bucky. That would've been more emotional. But it's been like 3 years in-universe since Endgame so I guess we have to assume he passed away already.

Now what's interesting is that we have, at least, five current or assembling teams in the MCU.
There's the Thunderbolts. With now a chance that Red Hulk, Zemo and even the Leader could join them in the future.
Also the new Guardians of the Galaxy.
There's the group that Miss Marvel and the new Hawkeye are assembling, that could either be the Young Avengers (most likely) or an adaptation of the A Force (since so far is only them and Cassie is mentioned).
Then there's the group that we see at the end of Shang Chi, with Shang Chi himself, Katy, Hulk, Captain Marvel and Wong.
And now the new Avengers, with the members so far being Captain America and Falcon. If I had to guess, joined by Spider-Man, Star Lord, Namor, She-Hulk and Black Panther.

I'm guessing the teams will be meeting on Doomsday.

Good to know.
I can live with a A Quality Non Mess.
Solid & Straightforward is, ALL I WANT!

I think we have to see how it plays out. I have zero hype for Doomsday, but if it makes like 2 billion, then Falcon Cap underperforming won't mean much. Also won't mean much if Thunderbolts and FF do well. So we have to see how the year plays out in totality
POSITIVITY!

Something about the pacing of this movie felt really off to me after the first 20-30 minutes. The way scenes would start and end felt super choppy IMO and it definitely felt awkward whenever they went to the next big action sequence.

I could tell this movie had to have been hell to edit once they incorporated all those reshoots which really irritated me to the point to where it pretty much took me out of the movie at times because it was so distractingly obvious.

I also really wasn't a fan of all the connections to The Incredible Hulk or Eternals. The Eternals stuff is probably less egregious tbh but man as much as I would love a proper follow up to TIH none of that stuff fit here organically and Tim Blake Nelson deserved so much better than this.

Him returning here all of a sudden after 16 years felt so random, underdeveloped and forced and unfortunately he will definitely go down as one of my least favorite MCU villains.
