Many directors will use slight color overtones in their films to convey a certain era, etc., For example, Minority Report used a blue color overtone to the movie giving it a futuristic look. Do you think that Captain America, being filmed back in the era or WWII, should have a Sepia overtone to make the movie look classic? Obviously, black and white would not be beneficial, but a nice sepia overtone I think would work. It would drown out the colors and be very similiar to how Marvel prints any flashbacks of Captain America in the comics. I do believe, although I am not positive, that this is what Steven Speilberg did in Saving Private Ryan during the flashback portion (most of the movie) of the movie.

What do you all think?

I can see this working

Man, thank God. I thought I was going to have to explain what shooting in color overtones meant. LOL

Yeah a subtle color tone would help add some appropriate atmosphere; especially if the movie ends in the present day then that shift becomes even more noticeable.

I very much pictured the color tones of Saving Private Ryan for this film.

Everybody using ****ing sepia these days.

How do you have 34000 posts and I've never heard of you?

I keep a low profile :ninja:

Btw, I wrote this a long time ago, I think it could work as the intro for the movie...

Ok, this is my idea for the Intro of the movie...

Setting: 1944, some God-forsaken European field, muddy and dirty.

You see lots and lots of soldiers going for cover, as they're being attacked by an unseen menace.

Bullets flying around everywhere, kind of like at the beginning of SPR, only worse!

Soldiers have nothing to protect themselves so they're constantly going down, looking for cover or hiding behind tanks.

You focus on a certain group of soldiers hiding behind the rests of a tank and the superior is yelling like a madman, using that telephone/backpack thing... "WE'RE BEING SLAUGHTERED!" and stuff like that.

Suddenly, amongst all that chaos, you see a figure running at full speed, right in front of that group of soldiers behind the tank.

You don't actually get to see it clearly, it's just a blur, as the camera would be fixed on those soliders.

One of them goes bananas and screams "SARGE! SARGE! LOOK AT THAT!" or something and the Sarge goes like "What the hell do you wa...." and then he sees "him".....

He immediatly goes "KEEP FIGHTING! KEEP FIGHTING, MEN!", and everyone around listens, and the tanks start moving forward! The Sarge makes some hand gestures at some other superiors around the field, and everyone starts moving....

Then you get to see a shot of a pair of millitary boots running at full speed (you get to see a little blue above them), and at the same time you keep hearing bullets and lots of "CLANG!" noises.

Then you get to see a shot of the back of this person while running at full speed, and you get to see a little more detail....

He has a millitary backpack, and his clothes are muddy as hell, but you realize they're blue.....

You get to see a REALLY FAST shot of him from the front, but it's more like a blur, because he lifts this shield to protect himself (muddy and dirty, but you recognize the shield) and again, you barely get to see him....

Then we continue to the sideways shot (you get to see his feet running), and then the camera pans out and you see this HUGE Nazi mechanical tank with machine guns everywhere, like a 100 yards from him.

All of this time, he's running AT FULL SPEED, so he gets closer and closer to this thing. And there's no music, so you only get to hear this person panting.

The idea is that as the camera pans out, you get to see a full shot of him and the bottom of this huge tank, but by now he starts to look really small, because the camera pans out, and the image starts to fade away, and as it's fading away, you the the little figure jumping and climbing this machine, and then, the image fades out...

This scene would last about 15-20 minutes....

Then you see "A few years back..." or whatever, and you get to see the origin.

After dedicating some time to the origin (30-45 minutes), you return to the tank battle and the rest of the movie, which would have to deal with the battle against Red Skull (culminating with a BADASS hand to hand fight scene between them).

What do you guys think?

Hate to break it to you, but this movie will be PG-13.

I can see black+white for newsreels but that's about it.

Sure, as long as they're not "like SPR but worse"

How about... not as graphic, but just as intense (if that can be done... not sure... the graphicness contributed greatly to the intensity).

One of the things, as far as film ratings go, is the use of blood and gore. I see what you are talking about in terms of showing a lot of bullets, explosions, etc., in the vein of SPR so you could have them engaged in an all out firefight and have it be extremely hectic, violent and disturbing without showing blood and gore.

The only problem that I have with your scenario, and this is my military background, is showing Captain America in the invasion of Normandy. I know the comics have portrayed him there, but there are so many other ways to throw him into the war without putting him into this invasion. It is one of the greatest acheivements of the United States military, a task they didn't think we could achieve, and there were so many men that gave their lives to make this a victory for us, that I feel that putting CA in it would cheapen the memory of so many good men who gave their lives. I do know that there are some people that are going to feel this way no matter how you look at it, but you can put him in WWII without putting him in one of the biggest battles of the past century. Hellboy put their story in WWII without putting them in the middle of a famous battle. Maybe I'm sensitive to this, but I think that this one battle should not be turned into a "Captain America was the reason for victory" battle cry.

Just my opinion though.

Ok, missed something. No one said Battle of Normandy. My mind took the SPR talk to mean that. Point still stands, but now it's not directed at anyone. LOL

:)

I'd prefer they didn't, but it's neither here nor there with me, as long as the story and direction is solid..

Hey, Normandy wasn't just the Americans...it was a joint venture of the Allied Nations. Just a pet peeve of mine. The Canadians and the British were also involved in D-Day and the storming of Normandy. That being said, I do think that they should avoid having Captain America being directly involved in storming the beach, but instead have him else where doing something even more dangerous during the invasion of Normandy. That would explain why he isn't menitoned in the history books as being there and it doesn't cheapen one of the greatest victories for the Allies during WWII.

I do think that they should shoot this movie very SPR and Band of Brothers...and less Indiana Jones/Rocketeer.

Rage

Like sky captain? Is that what you want cap to look like? I'd love that.
