Carbanak cybergang swipes over $300 million from banks

Sounds like a lot but for banks this is like an unusually large rounding error. No surprise though that this is happening again because security is an afterthought.

They have your money, why the big deal about security?

I know its not funny, but you look at the take modern bank robbers are getting thanks to technology and it makes the sums that John Dillinger and Nelson pulled in look like pocket change. And the modern guys arent being shot at or putting innocent people in harms way. I like to know what John and Nelson would say about all this.

You might get $25k from doing an in person robbery but with the right planning and measures you could get away with millions without being shot at.

I wonder if the Point Break remake will go the e-robbery route.

Instead of shooting a gun in the air they'll be clicking a mouse and screaming.

I wonder how long untill they're caught. Everything leaves a trail, right?

Some don't get caught. They have enough walls between them and people to move the money fast enough to get a good amount of it gone before anyone can figure out where it went.

What about when they actually start using it? Suddenly they can buy things, no more worries about bills or insurance, etc. Surely the smaller stuff is bound to get someone caught.

I'm sure most of them have a good plan on what to do in cases like that. If you start buying crazy things then the IRS or whoever will get suspicious. I imagine the best way would be to shove your share into an off-shore account and live off the interest and occasionally pulling out money for whatever.

Or just leave the country, head to one without extradition laws and live there. Either way it's fine.

Basically robbing a bank in person is obsolete....and less of a payout. You wanna be gangsta, start coding.

Considering the potential payout difference between an in person robbery and online its pretty crazy. Of course the in-person means you have the money right now in your hands while online it could be stolen, lost or caught.

I think the difference is that people that rob banks in person are more poverty stricken and need it now as you said, whereas dudes that do it online are doing it more for kicks, to prove a point, or are just bored or already kinda well off but want more.
