Has anyone here ever had to make a career change?

I ask because I haven't been able to get any jobs with my graphic design degree, and maybe I should just do something else.

I studied engineering couldnt really find a job in that in the area, so i ended up being a printer, id rather be a printer :D

My gf got a degree in microbiology went into pharmaceuticals didn't like it and is now finishing up a nursing degree.

If you are truly unhappy with what you are doing, you should really make the steps and try and do something else.

I like being a graphic designer it's just hard to find work if you only have an associate's degree, being that most of the jobs require someone with a bachelor's.

Have you considered going for your bachelors?

I have a sister considering going back for nursing, how long did it take her to get her LPN, RN?

I don't have the money, plus I already have $30,000 in student loans I haven't paid back yet.

:wow: For an associate's degree?

Yeah, it'll be difficult to find a job with only an associates. But the nice thing is about the field, if you have a killer portfolio, it doesn't matter if you have an associates or a bachelors. If you'd like some help getting a proper professional portfolio together, I can give you some assistance.

Since she already had a bachelor's degree in microbiology, she went into a 2 year accelerated nursing program. However, you must have all the prerequisite classes. She should meet with a guidance counselor or admissions officer to see if she meets that criteria. At best she's looking at 2 years. That's for a RN.

An LPN I believe only requires 1 year of schooling.

That's the other bad part, all my best work was on my computer but the computer stopped working and the files were lost.

Thanks, she got her associates in business admin from some school. She's supposed to go down to the guidance counselor's office next week. She's trying to get in by the summer semester.

I haven't a degree but I worked in long term health care as a recreation therapist for 8 years at two separate facilities.
Once end of stage Aids patients were added it became a little more difficult watching people waste away so rapidly. So I became.....an electrician. The Union has a great apprentice program, they actually pay you to go to school. Now I'm ready for another career move.

Erz I had a friend that did the same thing, minus the microbiology. She's married to a cooperate lawyer and has never had to work. So when are you getting married?

I've been an IT consultant, registration assistant, corporate event account manager, software salesman, and now am a business development manager at CDW, the hardware/software reseller. Several of the jobs were in the industry, but they varied as far as duties.
