How about Robert Mitchum as either Batman or the Punisher?
Steve McQueen- Cyclops
Charles Bronson- Wolverine
Henry Fonda (without hair)- Xavier
Yul Brynner (with hair)- Magneto
Lee Marvin- Sabertooth
Here's my cast for a mid to late 1980s' Fantastic Four.
Reed Richards - Matt Dillon
Sue Storm - Michelle Pfeiffer
Johnny Storm - Eric Stoltz
Dr. Victor Von Doom - Jeff Goldblum
Ben Grimm: Bruce Willis
Early 70's X-Men
Cyclops - Warren Beaty
Ice Man - Harrison Ford or Tim Matheson
Beast - William Shatner or Bob Hope
Marvel Girl - Raquel Welch
Angel - Michael Douglas
Xavier - Kirk Douglas
Magneto - Vincent Price
Could come later
Wolverine - Jack Nicholson
Nightcrawler - Gene Wilder
Thunderbird - Will Sampson
Storm - Eartha Kitt
Colossus - Arnold Schwarzenegger
How about Jeff Goldblum as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic?
Can you imagine Jeff as Clark Kent?
I nominate Ron Perlman as the Thing/Ben Grimm
I don't really see Harrison Ford as Iceman. Ford as Cyclops maybe, but not Iceman. How about Mark Hamill for Iceman?
Goldblum would've actually made a great Joker or Scarecrow in a 1980s' Batman flick. He's my choice for The Riddler in the current franchise.
Here's just some random casting choices for superhero movies in other decades.
Superman - Rock Hudson (1950s'-early 1960s')
Lois Lane - Audrey Hepburn
Wonder Woman - Sophia Loren (also my choice for Talia in a 1950s' Batman) (1950s'-early 1960s')
Harry Osbourne - James Dean (1950s')
Wolverine - Jack Nicholson (1970s')
John Cusack = Peter Parker
I watch Cusack in any of his films and he's closer to Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire is when he's actually playing the character.
Waaaay back in 2000 or so, someone asked Cusack in a web chat if he'd be up for playing Spidey, and Cusack said something like, "Of course, but all these young actors are trying to take it away from me." Not that it's likely Cusack was ever in the frame, but it's cool that he was intrested.
Cusack would have been great.
Batman/Bruce Wayne................... Gregory Peck
Superman............................... Rock Hudson
80's Iron Man Produced by Simpson/Bruckheimer
Tony Stark - Richard Gere/ John Travolta / Kevin Bacon
Jimmy Rhodes - Danny Glover
The Mandarin - Christopher Lee
Titanium Man - Dolph Lundgren
MODOK - Gilbert Godfried
60's The Flash directed by Robert Stevenson
Barry Allen - Dean Jones
Iris West-Allen - Mary Tyler Moore
Wally West - Kurt Russell
Weather Wizard - Terry Thomas
Proffesor Zoom - Fred MacMurray
Here's some Watchmen casting...
Dr Manhattan- Vincent Price
Comedian- Jack Nicholson
Clint Eastwood fer 70s Wolverine.
Late 40's to Early 50's Justice League of America
Superman- Cary Grant
Wonder Woman- Elizabeth Taylor
Hal Jordan- Cary Grant
Aquaman- Errol Flynn
Martian Manhunter- Michael Rennie
Green Arrow- Jimmy Stewart (Die him blonde and give him a bow)
I like all your other picks but James Dean would only be like a retro version of the James Franco-ized Harry, which wasn't that reminiscent of the comic book version.
I like John Cusack as Spidey, and Diane Lane as MJ, I think that would have been great.
I think John Goodman would have to fit into a flick someplace, maybe as Doc Ock.
How about Michael Keaton as the Joker and Val Kilmer as Two-Face?
Vincent Price as Dr. Strange
damn, Vincent Price is a perfect Dr Strange
And Jack Nicholson for Batman!
Indeed he is.
I'll third that on th' Price thing. Always thought he woulda rocked as Strange.
