Cast the new DCU

She's more prominent than Corenswet (and I think she's destined to be a Big Name in a way Corenswet never would have been without Supes) for sure but she's def less prominent than Hoult and Brosnahan.

I think Corenswet's entire career trajectory existed to lead him up to become Superman. It's like he was engineered in a lab.

Yeah, I will never think he was anything above a totally middle of the road Whatever choice (I like him! I just think literally every white guy in his age range who Seems Nice and looks the part would be par) but it absolutely does seem predestined. The first time I ever heard his name was years ago as a Superman fan cast.

The first major role he ever got (The Politician) literally had the other character telling him he looks like Superman. Also looking at the weird similarities with Christopher Reeve, and the way his career was positioned just exactly right for when Superman begun casting... it's wild. I can't really think of any fancast that seemed as strangely predestined as that one.

Honestly the only thing working against Arjona right now is her height, and that’s only because we know Gunn is picky about that sort of thing.
If they’re looking to distance from the Gadot portrayal, I’d say there’s enough of a classically beautiful, vaguely Latine/Mediterranean resemblance between the two of them that it could be another strike against her. I think Charlee Fraser is in a similar boat.

Not trying to rehash that silly argument or anything… clearly wasn’t a dealbreaker in the Cavill versus Corenswet casting decision, and in much the same way the reason there’s a resemblance is because they all resemble the character they’re being suggested for.

I really don't think James cares about that even in the slightest and the fact that Superman's other contender was a dude that looked and sounded exactly like Cavill is a testament to that as well.

Well there’s a difference between the preferences of James Gunn and peoples personal picks for who they would like.

I don’t think everyone is trying to guess who Gunn will cast. They’re just saying who they’d like.

The original comment was: "If they’re looking to distance from the Gadot portrayal, I’d say there’s enough of a classically beautiful, vaguely Latine/Mediterranean resemblance between the two of them that it could be another strike against her. I agree.

To that end, there are a few actresses out there who are on a similar trajectory (episodic early career guest spots to "prestige" TV roles to films) or at least have enough of a track record to warrant a closer look.

I'd be interested in

Bonus unknown actress whose look is pretty perfect for a classic Wonder Woman, but whose acting skills I can't vouch for --Genevieve Chennour.

Some good suggestions here.

Because it’s seeming more and more like it’s a matter of time before he puts Blade in his rear view mirror…

He'd be a great MM. But I'm still holding out hope Blade will finally come together.

Abubakar Salim would kill it though. Great voice, stature, demeanor, and he can play strange and warm.

Mahershala is an all-time talent, and I would certainly not be complaining, but I honestly think he’s a bit too… maybe… complex a performer for how I’d personally prefer to see MM written.

I’d rather they looked at slightly more comedically inclined and less cerebral actors, but wrote the character completely straight and stoic. Imagine reverse engineering what Daniel Craig did for Benoit Blanc, I guess.

A few guys that I could see really stealing the show here are:

Omar Sy (The Intouchables):

Babs Olusanmokun (The Book of Clarence):

Nonso Anozie (Sweet Tooth):

And a real left-field one who just kinda feels alien (and if he could bulk up or was cool in mocap) Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta):

I agree, I meant to make that more clear in the second paragraph. I don’t think it would be a factor. But it is very slightly more nuanced in that Cavill and Corenswet both look closer to classic Supes than, say, Dean Cain. So if immediately after Cain’s run they had looked at a Cain-lookalike, the actor in question would still look like Superman, but there might be a bit more blowback.

Arjona seems great. I haven’t seen her in much, but I would be enthusiastic about her casting… I’m just saying that there are other actresses that hew a bit closer to a classic portrayal and look less like Gadot than Arjona and Fraser. But I’m splitting hairs, mostly for the sake of conversation while we’re waiting on any actual news.

They all look enough like the character, and acting talent and capturing the spirit of the character should be much bigger priorities.

When the hell did DC get the rights to use Oreos? :funny:

If they don't show J'onn's Oreo addiction then the DCU is dead to me.

Arjona doesn’t look or remind of Gadot at all, besides both being beautiful.
Fair enough. I disagree, and think Arjona shares a specific sort of elegant, runway beauty with Gadot that neither have in common with, say, Linda Carter (or some of the names I threw out there).

Regardless, I don’t think it would/should be disqualifying or anything. If Arjona is anyone’s favorite for the role, I’m on board. She’s stunning and a seems to be a great talent.

*Sorry about the nested quotes, I’m on mobile.

If Arjona doesn't get Wonder Woman she's definitely gonna get Zatanna or something like that.
