Well, to each its ownt:. I liked how over the top gothic he was, and I liked his birth, straight out of an old hammer horror movie. Also I liked that PeeWe was his father.
But if they use him again I want a different take on the character, hence why I like your Gandolfini idea.

Well, So far, (besides Kathie Holmest, Nolan has been spot-on with casting imo. He got Batman and the joker right, and Gordon, and Alfred, and Dent etc... the guy, among other things, is a genius at casting I think. Even Schiff looked like comic book joker, which was a great touch imo.

imo Viggo Mortensen and Sean Bean are too old but damn like if Viggo was 15 years younger he would be a terrific black mask

I don't think age matters in Black Mask's case; if they were gonna do him I'd imagine he'd be partially CGI like Two-Face in TDK. He's got a black skull for a head, all he has to do is provide the voice and a kickass performance.

Appearantly he was in some sort of house fire and his coffin stone mask that was made out of his mother's coffin was burned onto his face; Batsy tried to save him, but he was already disfigured in the end.

Kathie = prettier. Maggie = better actress imo. And I think I prefer better actress, even though I had a bit of a hard time believing that bruce and dent were fighting over her, but she made her last moments very moving I thought.
As for Black Mask I think his face was fused with a mask in a fire accident or something.

It sure is, or at least what's left of his skull; the rest is just fused metal and brimstone I think. Suprised he managed to hang onto his ears.

I doubt that'll be a problem; if they can do a kickass Two-Face, they can certainly pull off Black Mask just as well.

That Two-Face, even though pretty unrealistic was really cool imo.

Nolan's ballsy move to prioritize faithful representation of the character's appearance over practicality, is proof that the sooner the obsession over realism dies, the better.

I think though Black Mask if they did go with him being a burn victim who lost his skin would be very hard to do realistically and to have him as the third villain would then go back to "Oh, he's like Two-Face." To me, having him wear like an African-tribal mask or some sort of voodoo mask, or Halloween mask he found keeps it realistically.

Either a "Day of the Dead" skeleton mask spray-painted black or just any mask really can work. Then, you avoid another "scarred person turns villain" scenario. I mean look at the "SPIDER-MAN" films you had twice two scientists turn into villains; if "SPIDER-MAN 4" has The Lizard in it, that'll be the third time that scenario has played out. (Don't get me wrong though it's time we SEE The Lizard!)

I just really really reallllly want to see The Mad Hatter in a film. However, I cannot really think of a good candidate. I love almost every casting suggestion on this page. Since I don't feel like wading through all 115 pages of this thread, anyone have some believable Mad Hatter suggestions?

He's a real whiz with accents and a superb, often overlooked talent to boot. He's the man to play Jervis Tetch.

A wealthy (at least very well-off) club owner who is basically untouchable like Capone was from the law and has connections all over the city. In Gotham Underground, one of his lady henchman says "you're the best Ive ever had and I dont mean bosses." Doesnt sound like that much of a loser.

so far I like the rumers of johny depp as riddler, and the other suggestions micheal caine gave. but my top choice for the riddler would definately be jude law. he even looks the part. (to me, atleast.)
