casting mistakes?

Straight to the heart Misto...straight to the heart...I'm surprised at you though...didn't think you'd snap so quickly...totally uncalled for.

Great...another Misto rant and rave that makes absolutely no sense...why can't we just admit, since we are talking about universes, that the movies are their own universe, something original and bold, but still retain the spirit of X-Men...and that some portrayels, are not as bad as some seem to believe.
that's what I've been doing since the first movie. Treating it as another universe. A universe in which, despite being totally different, Rogue is still a good character.

I love the movie universe! I love that it has it's own history, that characters that didn't really interact in the comics, are able to interact in the films, that you don't have to think so far back into it's history to remember where everyone is coming from. I think it's a beautiful universe and one that is seperate from any X-Men comic universe.

Yes, everybody seems to be happy with him, but for me he isn't the comic Logan.

Me neither.

I think the overexposure of the character took away from the character.

He wasn't Wolverine. That ain't so much Hugh's fault, but his height still bugs me. Itmakes him seem less agile and his fight scenes look awkward.

:hyper:

Hugh doesn't have the profile of comic Logan, as well as Anna doesn't have the one of comic Rogue, but they made him some justice and ending with a great movie character, but this wasn't Rogue's case, as all know.

The problem isn't the actors, the problem is the creative team (both writers and Make-up departament).

Sorry, aside from Mystique, Nightcrawler, and Beast...make up has little to nothing to do with how a character is REALLY brought to life.

i think
we had three perfect actors
Ian , Patrick and Famke
Actors that did good
Hugh , Kelsey ,Rebecca
Actors that had BAD material and managed to do their best with it
Anna
Actors that had Bad Material and sunk beneath it
Halle Berry , Vinnie Jones, Josef Summers
and of course those actors that you dont know if its an actor or an actress
Omayrah

I liked Anna as movie Rogue, but to pull off comic Rogue would be a difficult feat. I always thought Julia Roberts (in her Pretty Woman days) wouldn't have been bad.

Agreed . I love the "new world" created by Bryan Singer

Interesting, but I don't have Famke in the perfect actors. Time ago I'd say Kelsey is perfect casting, but now, I think is just great. Besides I'd add Rebecca had little material, and Anna good material, in X1 of course.

Famke was perfect. Nobody else could have done Phoenix

I thought she was a wonderful Jean Grey, but technically speaking, I think she would have done a wonderful Phoenix, had they done a wondeful Phoenix. :)

Yeah, that's what I mean. Take the scene at the house. (As immortalised in my current avatar). That line was beautifully delivered, and promised an exceptional Phoenix. They just cocked it up.

it's a little sad when they had such a great character as Phoenix and we only get what we get in X3. X3 should have had more scenes as great as the Jean house one, the lab scene, or the last seconds of her at the end.

^^ well, we should be glad that we had at least those scenes!!

for those that say anna doesn't look like comic rogue

give anna a script worthy of comic rogue and she can deliver. i remember being so excited over the line 'your a guy bobby...' because i could imagine comic and cartoon rogue saying it. She didn't have a chance to shine in X3

WOW!! That was great!1 I always thought Anne looked like rouge!!

If everyone can recall back to X1, we all got a glimpse of Comic Rogue, to me it's obvious that the creaters knew what they were doing with her character, they seemed to get her right in this scene. I made this post in a different thread a while back:

I'd just like to put in my two cents about the statement that the movie Rogue is a COMPLETELY different character than the comic Rogue, that some of you have claimed is true. It can all be explained with one line of dialogue from the first X-Men movie. Let me set up the scene for you, shall I?

Marie (the Rogue character with a name given to her..oh no!) is in her bedroom with a BOY (eek!). She is explaining to him as she points at a map of North America.

"Niagra Falls...up the Canadian Rockies, and then it's only a few hundred miles to Anchorage (shakes bootie...bump-bump-bump)."

Then her little boy-toy says "Won't it be kinda cold?"

And then Rogue smiles and gets on the BED WITH HIM! "Well that's the point stupid, otherwise it wouldn't be an adventure!"

Those lines help me envision Rogue before her mutation became active. A sassy, flirty young woman who dares to do a few things that are bold. Then she gets hit with a burden that doesn't allow her to touch people EVER! Now if that happened to me I certainly wouldn't mourn that loss or feel withdrawn...oh wait a minute...YES, YES I WOULD! Of course this is all my own opinion, but in my mind when viewing the movies, Rogue is certainly more on target to her comic counterpart than many people are giving her credit. But that's just my opinion.

I just thought I'd share that little idea with everyone and see what they think.

I think all the actors were capable in their roles, YES, even Halle!!! She may not look exactly what Storm was in the comics, but she had the acting skill. Like in the second X3 trailer, Halle's acting was impressive as Storm, then when is came to the final cut those scenes weren't as good, which I don't understand. But the writing and direction helped to butcher the character.

I think had the writers done just a bit of um work and research they would have found that Halle, even though she was a last ditch effort for casting, was a gold mine.

They did no research on her nor her character. It's no secret that she is an exceptional dramatic actress with things like Queen, Losing Isaiah, Why Do Fools Fall in Love and the outstanding Introducing Dorthy Dandridge.

All of these roles have the common denominator of the vulnerable woman who loses everything and has to slowly find herself. Google Things We Lost in the Fire and you will find the same thing.

Now, looking back at Storm's character, she has gone through the same thing. Losing powers from a neutralizing gun is essentially curing her. She went through a character change, had to find herself, and there was drama in doing so.

So there was a link to the cure and Storm. Why didn't they see it? Why were Magneto, Mystique, and essentially Rogue (who doesn't get cured until the rings, right?) cured when none of them ever were?

This would have explained the character change, redeemed her and given her something to do instead of just being a useless power tool, and it would have tapped into what the actress was paid to do and does very well...ACT. In fact we may had even seen a human Storm lead, you know, like what actually happened. Sure it would have been not exactly the same, but it would have been close. It's not an origin story, but it is development. Halle could have been at her near best.

I really do think that they had it in for Scott and Storm since the beginning. Both seemed to have been deemed unworthy of a story that grabbed attention. But seeing how Storm DIDN'T get cured against her will and two other people did is more proof that no one, absolutely no one, had any idea of what they were doing.

I am upset that Halle doesn't know her character well, but seeing as how no one else does, I'm not that surprised. Storm is one of the most complex people to portray and understand it's no surprise she came off as wrong. But watching them not try is like a slap to her fans. It's not like she doesn't have story lines or motive. It just was never there to begin with, and that just saddens me. Even her movie-origin was the exact opposite of what it should have been, and it STILL wasn't there. What does that say they (the writers) were thinking?

The casting for Storm wasn't a mistake, in fact it was literally the best thing for the character and the fourth best thing for the franchise. The writing for Storm, from dialog to action, was. Whoever responsible needs to be held accountable.

i agree but 5 minutes isn't good enough- its been 3 movies now she should be back to 'herself'

i preferred storm with the african accent in x1 it helped the illusion. the american accent lost it for me - its just halle in a wig without it

You know all the conflicting stories about that accent really doesn't hide the fact that no one knows what she should have sounded like. I mean she was born in the states raised in Cairo until she was six, when her parents were killed, stayed there as a homeless orphan/thief when until she was twelve. Afterwards she became a nomad traveling up and down the eastern African Coast, the Sahara and settling in Kenya when she was about 16, living as an isolated Goddess on Kilimanjaro.

So, what kind of accent should she have? American, was it her American father who taught her how to speak? Kenyan dialect, was it her mother who taught her how to speak? Arabic or French, after all the majority of her childhood was spent in Eypt? :csad:

Truth of the matter is, not even her creators know how she should sound. Very few people put the effort into doing the research to find out.
