Well with the announcement of the director I would like to start a new thread (if there is already go ahead and merge or delete) for casting of both Billy Baston and Captain Marvel.

My pick so far for Marvel are Vin Diesel, The rock and Karl Urban. But someone else mentioned Adam Baldwin.

Billy Baston Jonah Bobo, Josh Hutcherson (both from Zathura)

I never thought about The Rock, but the more I think about it, his brand of self-depricating smart-aleck humor would probably work pretty good.
That would mean Billy would have to be a mixed-race street 'tween, which is probably a great starting point for a movie like this. Forget Vin Diesel. He doesn't fit, same for Balwin (Adam Baldwin? are you kidding?)
Would he do it? He certainly has the physique and the acting ability.
Would Morgan Freeman play the wizard Shazam?
Find someone who can play Billy Batson against these two and you'll have powerful magic indeed.

Hmmm some other ideas, Vince Vaughn, Billy Zane (even though he did the Phantom)

Dwayne Johnson would really make a great Captain Marvel, IMO. He has the talent to convey the child-like innocence and awe-inspiring power. I think he'd do a great job.

You can't link to images at IMDB. You just get a default piece of blank crap.

The more I think about it, the more I like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for Captain Marvel. I like the idea of a Billy Batson teenager based on him.
Now we just need to find a teen to match and we're almost there.
    (OK, Telfer looks good, too.)

    Thank you.

And is it me, or does Paul Telfer up there look like he could bend Brandon Routh into a pretzel?

Dr. Fate, this is the best choice I've seen for CM so far.  I back up this post, along with this nomination.

I vote Ryan Pinkston for Billy. Y'know, the kid who played young Matt Murdock.

Patrick Warburton. There's no other choice. He's perfect, just look at him!

I like Adam Baldwin for Captain Marvel. If he could bulk up, Matthew Settle would be good too.

I think it should be Adam Sandler. He would be perfect for this Summer comedy.

I started thinking what age should Bill Baston be in move? A preteen like 9-11 years or young teen to young adult 13 -18?

just thought. casting of billy will make sequals difficult. Billy would need to be young. there is usually 2-3 years between sequals (no doubt they are planning to make 3 like they do with most comic book films), you could have a problem of casting a 9 yr old but by the time the 3rd one comes out he's 18.
