New Line Plans Category Six

October 29, 2011

New Line Cinema has purchased a screenplay for a found footage film called Category Six, Deadline reports.

Written by John Swetnam (who also wrote the upcoming found footage project Evidence), Category Six tells the fictional tale of a deadly tornado.

The title is a reference to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, which ranks the potential damage that can be done by hurricanes. Though the scale only goes through five, some scientists have recently argued that the list should be amended to include category six, which would mark the most catastrophic of storms.

This might be a good disaster movie to see.I'll watch it.

Vulture is reporting that Steven Quale, visual effects supervisor and second unit director on James Cameron's Avatar and Titanic, is in final negotiations to direct New Line Cinema's Category Six.

The "found footage" film will document high school students caught in a deadly, tornado-spawning hurricane. Quale made his directing debut on last year's Final Destination 5, which earned $158 million worldwide.
