The other day, I stopped by one of my longtime favorite comic shops before running to the airport. I was in a big hurry, but I didn't really know what I wanted. An Adam Hughes cover caught my eye. It was Catwoman #76. I picked it up and scanned the inside. Impressed, I started looking at some other issues. I walked out with the 4 most recent issues, and a couple of other comics. I spent about 20 bucks total, but now I'm wishing that I would have just bought one of every issue they had available, while I was still there.

This book is excellent. I haven't seen or heard people talking about it, though. I've added it to my pull list, where it will remain for the foreseeable future. Who else is reading this title?

Hate to tell you, but the book is being cancelled. Only an issue or two left to go.

Wow, what a waste! I guess I'll just be reading back issues, then.

I read it for a while, but I got bored of it after the resolution to the story with her daughter.

Yeah, the stories in that book just seem to drag on and I find Pfeifer to be a rather boring writer.

I didn't mind Pfeifer's writing, I just hated that the baby turned out to be a meaningless lark that was effectively retconned out of Catwoman's mind. I liked seeing Catwoman struggle to protect her kid.

Dang, man...I haven't reached that part, yet. :/

Sorry. You said you read the last four issues, though. Her baby's nowhere to be seen. I'm sure you must've put two and two together.

That's alright. Maybe they would've continued with that thread if the book wasn't on the chopping block.

I think the baby was axed because they're trying to return Catwoman to an outright villain. Her betrayal is essentially what started the ball rolling toward [blackout]the Martian Manhunter's death[/blackout] in Final Crisis #1. She's apparently become very self-possessed and unwilling to risk her neck for others again.

That makes sense. I also wonder if that was anyway related to negative fan reactions to the whole baby thing.

Good God. Are we not done with the tired old trope of having the star character of a book pwn Batman to prove how cool they are? Jesus. I was really hoping that the final issue of the book could end maturely, with Catwoman recognizing that she doesn't have to prove anything to anyone by being a thief again. That there was nothing wrong with her as a hero.

Instead, she just says, "Ah, you know what? **** it. I don't give a **** about anyone. I actually abandoned my baby because I just didn't ****ing want it." She of course has to totally own Batman for the entire issue, all the while doing the obligatory and stupid nods to how Batman is always right, even though more often than not, he's now used in most books as a doofus moron character.

Goodbye, character development. Hello, tired old plot device that was old in the 90s.

I thought there was a conscious decision on DC editorial's part to make her a villain again, which is why she wound up betraying J'onn (to his death) on the Hell Planet, and what the whole final arc of her series was about.

Why don't you just get it from a comic shop and pay with money?

Meh...I stopped reading after Catwoman "killed" Black Mask.

I went a lil' overboard in my praise for this book, but it's serviceable. The covers are outstanding, though.

PS. Catwoman killed Black Mask after War Games, and if any asks why I say he had it comming :o
