HERE'S a link to the CBR site where there's a poll asking, after four years, if fans prefer Peter married or single. I'm curious how this turns out so I thought I'd bring it to more people's attention. Results come out next week if I read it correctly.

I, of course, voted married.

I like Pete to be married to. When I'm reading a book I want to escape the crappy life I usually live. So seeing Pete married to MJ was cool. It made me believe that , I too , could have a smoking hot wife like Pete did. Why in the world did they think a single Peter is a better Peter ?

I prefer him married as well.

I voted married as well. As I've said before, if they wanted Pete to be single so bad why not a simple divorce? It's realistic as opposed to the route they took. I would have been OK with that. It's a normal real life thing that adds a new dynamic to the character.

I just don't get this ridiculous love for the marriage. "oooh they are the best couple eva!""I couldn't possibly enjoy Spider-Man now with MJ!!!" Its annoying. And its not that people having a positive opinion, but the CONSTANT whining. People bring this crap up at the drop of the hat. They were married for a relatively short time, and it was a gimmick to begin with. I mean, seriously, going back and reading old issues, and I just don't see what the hell was so special about the marriage.

Tbh, I've been enjoying him being single just as much as I was when he was married. Bothm ake for great stories.

One of my personal favorite aspects of the marriage was how Peter had someone he could trust enough to talk to about his dual-identity in complete honesty.

I loved that aspect as well, but the stories these days have so much...power put into them, if you ask me. I haven't enjoyed ASM this much since the JMS/JRJR days.

I voted married, mostly because I would rather characters go forward instead of having their pasts retconned. Pete grew up, fell in love, got married.

Agreed. I preferred the Peter Parker who grew and matured. I personally think too much emphasis is placed on Peter's teen/high school years in the public eye when it was only about 28 issues in the original comics, and most of his best supporting characters didn't appear until he was at least in college.

I voted married, obviously. I suspect most people who vote will, since the current demographic largely comprises fans who grew up with a married Spider-Man. Not that it really matters either way. They worked so hard to undo the marriage that it'd be flat-out stupid for them to ever lock him in another healthy, adult relationship.

^ What he said!

I like him single... because the Spectre of Spider-Man should always come between Peter Parker and those he loves... makes the responsibility all that much bigger.

:yay:

I like how 1/3 to 1/2 of the character's history is "relatively short time." And yeah, it might have been a gimmick but after about 20 years it kinda became staying power and longterm character growth. Most readers these days grew up with Peter and MJ being married... that is who Spider-Man is for us. Him being single is just half of who he is and the character and book is lacking because of it (in my opinion).

Yeah, 'cause it's not like the spectre of spider-man can't come between him and his wife or anything like that.

Oh, by the way, I vote married.

Apparantly... it DID!!!! hahahahahahahahahhaa....

:yay:
