At Comic-Con, Topher Grace said that it took him 45 minutes to put on the suit and 4 hours to put on the makeup. So...

It sounds like they are gonna do Venom for real, instead of using CGI. I was rather surprised.

This means that they're going to have to make some compromises in the design of Venom. There is no way they can make him look like the Venom from the comic book without using CGI. It's just not physically possible...is it?

So what do you think? Will Venom, perhaps, be part CG and part real (like some of the Narnia creatures)? How much of him will be real? Do you think it will look silly of they do him totally for real?

You had a good thread going there until you used the dreaded word "Narnia"

50-75% of CGI
25-50% of Prosthetics

a little more than 70/30 i think
(with 70 being CGI)

for the last time folks watch the leaked trailer....at the end it is obviously cgi...and it looks like the classic version....so CHILL

um, who exactly is freaking out anyway?

I think that topher will wear prosthetics in some parts of his face then green material on parts like the mouth and nose and maybe the eyes,so the artists/animators can cgi the huge mouth with the tongue and fangs on top, they could just enhance the make-up and blended so it looks like the whole face is real. But for me at least the best way to go would be to use mocap on topher for some scenes so they capture his facial expressions and then they can match them with venom's facial movement
for a more realistic venom.

its probably going to be like spiderman
venom will be prosthetics until big action sequences come

Prosthetics and puppetry are capable of MUCH more than audiences have been conditioned to realize. Look at the Lycans in Underworld. Look at Doc Ock's tentacles in SM2. The only way Venom will have any real presence is if he's done practically, with a small amount of CG when absolutely necessary(when he's transforming, etc.).

Bottom line, Venom is shaped like a human being. He walks upright, has two legs, two arms, and a head. There's no reason to make him CGI. That's the mistake they made with The Hulk. And don't give me any of that "there's no person in the world big enough to play him" stuff. They can make muscle bodysuits that look totally realistic and are entirely flexible. Example? Mr. Hyde from League of Extaordinary Gentlemen. Heck, there's also a deleted scene on the Scary Movie 3 dvd with Charlie Sheen made up as the Hulk with prosthetics, and it puts the actual Hulk movie to shame.

i think cgi only comes in with acrobatics and airial minuvers and such and of course the toung

but when venoms just standing around doin **** on the ground or on a building well that will be a full body costume.

That's good news. Looks like they'll combine both to achieve the best realism.

Nope, it was only CGI when he was doing all that running, jumping, and tranforming stuff I believe. The rest was a prothestic bodysuit designed by EdgeFX (the same company who made Ock's tentacles for SM2, interestingly enough).

I think we will have CGI and Prosthetics. BUt Venom will look like in the comics.
