Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther! - Part 5

Man-Ape doesn´t make sense as a name. All humans are apes.

I don't see them using the name Man-Ape either. I know this is based on a comic book but Calling a Black Man any kind of monkey name is a sensitive issue

Some idiot on wikipedia keeps changing it. It goes back and forth from 1976 to 1982 practically every day.

His birthdate is listed as 1982 here, which makes a lot more sense.

It's Chadwick and his mother editing that thing! :woot: She wants him to be proud of his real birthdate but he keeps telling her that he must be younger for Hollywood.

Age is just a number. It's what the actor looks like and the condition they're in.

Indeed, just trying to get the facts straight for my own sanity's sake as there are multiple conflicting sources.

Now that T'Challa has happened, I am now wanting to see Monica Rambeau in the MCU.

Are you trying to move the discussion past something that's more or less irrelevant? Do you even know where you are right now? :oldrazz:

Yes hopefully they are smarter than that. Just call him by his name...M'baku.

What do you think Wesley Snipes thinks of his missed chance at Panther now that a movie has been officially announced with an actor attached?

I'm happy we have a Black Panther movie confirmed and the role cast. I've read a bit of stuff with the character lately and have come to appreciate what a badass he is. The costume design looks AMAZING. Very cool and modern, without shying away from the comic-bookiness or trying to be "realistic", gives me hope for a similarly authentic Daredevil costume. And I'm happy that Marvel are going ahead with a movie with a black lead, it's an important milestone to hit.

I know it's early days, but how about Neil Blomkamp for director? He's got a distinctive brand of sun-scorched, African-infused sci-fi that could fit well with the world of Wakanda.

Blomkamp has my vote. A Blomkamp directed Black Panther with Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa and Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaw... that would be amazing.

if the elevation of black panther is the result of not having spiderman right now, then i am overjoyed. i think it's very important to have a person of color as one of the main protagonists in the marvel franchise.

Was just thinking the same but it doesn't appear as if we're going to be getting an origin story for BP, so having BP's father in it may not be in the cards.

He was described as a "Prince, maybe King" at one point. I wonder if they plan on tweaking things a little bit.

BTW, for those who wanted Ejiofor. Still include him in the movie (if so, which character) or save him for some other big character elsewhere?

What are the chances we see Spike Lee attached as an executive producer?

Spike Lee would actually be good as Director, so long as marvel reels him in and no political messages or trying to Americanize BP and Wakanda as if their country and culture share a kinship with the civil rites struggle that went on here in the States. I've always felt that Spike Lee would've gone further if he did mainstream movies. I know it's impotent to him to use a platform such as films to get a point across but he could've done those films and still went mainstream. Lee always came across as angry and I think he scared hollywood execs. The guy is a good director though and he could do a BP movie. just remind him that this is a superhero comic film filled with technology and fantasy. It's Do the right thing 2

This news made my month.

Guess we should've known it was coming for sure since Stan Lee said it would.

I'm satisfied with the casting as well. Boseman actually looks like a Panther. :hehe:

Plus he's pretty versatile so I'm confident he'll play genius, stoic, badass pretty well.

I'm by no means a Spike Lee hater but the man is past his prime.

I'm sure someone black will be in the production crew somewhere. It would be cool to see someone like McQueen exec producing since I doubt he'd write or direct. I do want John Ridley for the screenplay, though it'll probably be Yost and McFeely again.

OMG God I didn't think anyone would probably know Ridley. He could do it. The man is a good writer and he could do it without any political messages and black american struggles pre civil rites.

I also don't want BP to weighted down by finding a black director and writer and what not. it doesn't matter.

Yeah Well, maybe or maybe not. I'm not advocating for Lee but was just saying he is a good director. I wouldn't be upset if he got the gig so long as Marvel lays out what they want and the direction for the film.

Lets be honest, myself and many others probably wouldn't complain about having a great supporting African British cast. Not to stereotype but Black actors from the UK tend to either be great or incredible (lol that's the scale). Can't think of a "bad" black British actor.

Agreed and I'm an American black. This is why I wanted Marvel to cast a Black actor from abroad. Them guys always seem to have a natural charm and class to themselves. They a more regal acting ability then American Black actors. They would suit BP much better. Can't think of many black american actors that have it. Laurence Fishburne is one, for younger I would say Charles Michael Davis but I've only seen him on that Originals show so the jury's still out but he seems pretty good. Would have much rather had him as BP then Boseman.
