The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Chanes of this beating SM2 Quality wise?

Could this really potentially top SM2?

  • Yes, this has a good chance of doing so.

  • Not sure

  • No, I don't think this film has a chance of de-throning SM2

TASM2 won't come close to SM2, in terms of influence. Plus they have the train battle to go against, and I have a bad feeling that Max Dillion is going to be a pretty eye rolling villian. I mean just look at him. LOOK AT HIM. If you're ok with the way he looks than I've got to say you have absolutely no ground whatsoever to complain about the ham in Raimi's movies. None of his characters looked like THAT. A comb over, gap teeth, and nerd glasses? A black dude with a COMB OVER? If anything is going to turn people off from this movie it'll be that.

You do realize that entire look will go out the toilet the minute he gets his powers, right? I'd be surprised if Max Dillon gets even 1/5 of the marketing and screen time Electro does ("Electro" as in everything Max post-powers).

Plus, having just one supporting character in your franchise born in the 1960's be dressed that way due to not updating his look since then is not the same thing as turning your young-adult main protagonist into George McFly in all 3 films and throwing him in an environment full of 1960's people despite everything still taking place in the 21st century.

IMO, if people weren't turned off with Jamie playing Wanda in different skits. Then i don't think they will mind him with a comb-over for a few minutes.

So because it might only be in the film for a short amount of time, it's irrelevant. Got it.

???

This paragraph is so full of reaching generalizations and baseless presumptions that twist reality to conveniently suit your argument. lol.

So Jaime Foxx was born in the 1960's (who is not actually Max Dillon you know) and his character hasn't "updated his look since then" (since when? The 60's when he was a baby?), makes his over the top nerd caricature somehow what? More valid than a characterization than one that you seem to have some strange obsession with classifying as from the "1960's"(?) Seriously? an environment full of 1960's people huh? lol. You hate the Raimi films (and thus their characterizations), but as long as only one character is what? Anachronistic? And only for a short time, then it's perfectly acceptable.

This reasoning is beyond silly.

You know what? If Webb and co. hit a grand slam and have a meaningful, thoughtful story with characters I care about, and it's told really effectively and just put together well for an overall satisfying experience, I will have zero issues with giving it the praise it deserves. It's not a matter of one movie de-throning another or whatever. It's about making a meaningful, worthwhile storytelling experience.

:up::up::up: :highfive:

I don't really see the sense in this thread. Some will prefer SM2 and others ASM2.

Umm....yes?

I'm assuming he was born in the 1960's. Jamie Foxx is in his 40's in real life, plus Max looks a lot older than Jamie Foxx does and has a bald spot. Purely an assumption on my part, but my point still stands: One thing is to do it one time to one character and an entire other thing is to do that your main protagonist & entire world and then be all in-your-face about it throughout three films.

FYI, I don't hate the Raimi films (other than SM3). I dislike them as Spider-Man films, but I don't hate them. I think SM1 is ok, and that SM2 is really good. I can sit down and enjoy watching them if in the right mood.

Yes, the Raimi films were essentially in a 1960's environment. It's not just Peter's ridiculous George McFly nerd archetype. It's everything else. Most characters dress and act like it's the 60's. Even JJJ, who I love, is very 1960's-ish. The environment itself also looks very 1960's. Notice how there are barely are glass skyscrapers in all 3 Raimi films? Mind you, none of these things are bad things but it would have worked a lot better if the films actually took place in the 1960's but the film takes place in the 21st century.

A guy that has God-Like Powers? Sure to be the most epic battle yet?

^ Plus it will take place in Times Square. People have craved a Times Square battle in a Spider-Man film for so many years now.

Yep. Not only that, but SM2 wasn't really all that influential in terms of pop culture. It was popular, but SM1 was the film that had major impact on pop culture and the superhero film genre. Blade and X-men started the superhero film craze, but SM1 showed everyone how truly popular it could be.

Now, I will say, despite my feelings on SM2, the train sequence is great. It was easily the best superhero action scene until Avengers dethroned it. If ASM2 can put together an action set piece that can top the train sequence that would truly be amazing.

SM2 is considered the better film, but people remember SM1 more than SM2.

since when did the avengers de throne that title? look at the extended version and then think again

the only thing avengers had was explosions and what not. no real hand to hand combat

Although the train fight is still great, there have been a few better fights in CBM's since then IMO. The fights in The Avengers and Man of Steel come to mind, with MOS having the best fights in any CBM yet IMO. I also think the last fights in The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 3 are also really well done. Not sure if they're better than the train scene, but they're somewhere around that level.

I'm not just taking the choreography into account. I'm also taking into account the "fun" element and the way the characters play off each other during the fight (both the villains and heroes). The cinematography is on par with SM2, but also has a few "classic" comic booky moments on top of that such as Hulk beating the crap out of Loki and Hawkeye shooting an arrow that explodes in Loki's face.

ok. you may think its better put it took 6 heroes to achieve what 1 hero did. and its really just hulk smashing things. dont get me wrong avengers is a great movie but i think spider man 2 was better in terms of fight scenes for an individual hero

The MOS fight was garbage. The train sequence had creativity and heart. There was balance. He had to stop the villain while saving civilians. Ock played on that by throwing people off the the train and running it off the tracks. When the finale for MOS started it was just CGI and careless destruction of the entire city. With Spider-Man you were cheering for the hero in awe as he saved the city and the girl. MOS was a CGI fest with cheesy dialogue which is why its finale has nothing on the train sequence.

"You're a monster Zod, and I'm going to stop you!"

Very much this! ^ i would get goosebumps and chills while watching that train sequence

When I typed my post about the God like powers this came into my head as what I'd imagine it would be like. Just add more heart to it and have the hero actually save people instead of having him throw the bad guy into buildings full of civilians...

Personal preference obviously. The Battle of NY dethroned the train scene for me. It's hard to beat the euphoria I felt watching multiple Superheroes fighting together. I never really believed we'd see that on film, and even when it became clear that marvel was moving towards Avengers, I didn't think it would be done well.

It was a spectacular action piece.

I'd agree with that, but I'm just ranking Superhero action scenes in general.

also am i. and i think spider man has had some master pieces. the fact that it took multiple heroes and took 8 years for it to be de throned (which i dont agree) is really saying somthing
