Chapter 23 - "How To Stop An Exploding Man" - Discussion Thread 5/21/07

Some details about the season finale and whats to come for Volume 2...

Tim Kring, creator of NBC's Heroes, revealed to SCI FI Wire that the first-season finale will comprise the last three episodes of the year, will bring all of the main characters together in New York—and will ultimately result in the death of one or more heroes. "The whole thing converges in New York, ... and they're all there, and all of them play a role," Kring said in an interview at Wizard World in Los Angeles on March 17. "Even though some may feel like they're less significant to the final event, when you analyze it, each one had to play that role in order for the final event to be solved, and so there really was a kind of destiny quality to them coming together and having each one fulfilling [one thing] and one specific role."

Kring and company are completing the final draft of the season finale script—episode number 23, called "How to Stop an Exploding Man"—which goes into production in a week and is slated to air on May 23. Meanwhile, production has begun on the previous episode, "Landslide," Kring said.

As for the deaths? All Kring will say is that people die, including main characters. "The thing is, people knew fairly early on [that they might not make it through the season]," Kring said of the cast members. "Everybody, every actor that we've spoken to. I mean, ... we've spoken about this idea, that on this show the story is king and everybody is in service of that story. It's not a star vehicle. No, the show does not live or die by any one character. And so every actor should realize that at some point their ticket might come up. It's both sad and exciting at the same time."

Kring added: "It became very important that if we were going to set up the stakes of a villain and a conspiracy, the stakes would just not be real unless there were some deaths along the way. But the one caveat is, on a show like Heroes, you may not always [stay] dead. And with our ability to go back and forth in time, you may be dead, but you may show up on the show a few more times."

The season finale will also set up the show for season two, Kring said. "There is a cliffhanger quality to some of the episode, but more in terms of what is the fate of some of our characters, as opposed to what the story is going to be," he said. "Although we do have a one, I hope, shocking sort of spoiler for what season two is going to be. A premonition of ... what we're calling volume two."

Man I really hope some of the characters in this season stick around for season 2. Hiro and Claire better not go!

^

Me too. DL is a lifeless character who serves very little purpose. No doubt he'll have some focus in Niki's story however. He already knows Jessica has control.

I have feeling Nathan might die. He might finally face up and use his power. I really hope Peter makes it and that Ted is the exploding man. He could lose it and try to destroy everyone.

Nikki/Jessica needs to be resolved or Matt powers need to advance cause they are really starting to annoy me

Maybe Hiro will finally have that "awesome battle" with the dinosaur from the painting.:oldrazz: :cwink:

According to Kristin Veitch:

Sources tell me that Tawny Cypress, who plays Simone, is—drum roll, please—not off the show for good. Far from it! I'm told that even though she was "killed," Simone is coming back, along with her father (Peter's patient), in the season finale. It turns out she has abilities of her own, and as my source put it, "There are people on the positive and negative side. And Simone is on the negative side." Gaah! Oh, and according to another source, "[Simone and her father] may have some ties to some other characters that we had no idea about before."

:wow:

if ne1 saw the new preview with nickleback playing in the background mohinder gave a lil idea of one of the people who died i hope its a lie or a mistake bc i would be pissed if he died

Clea DuVall is coming back, eh? That's cool, she kinda just up and dissappeared.

I can't believe the end is coming. This show is so AMAZING!!

Totally right on after seeing the Canadian preview for next week.

The man deserves to stay considering the balls he had tonight in [BLACKOUT]killing Linderman[/BLACKOUT].His character had to suffer since he was introduced later than the main guys, had no surprising ties to other characters, plus he was never really involved in alot of the revelations.

I enjoyed both DL and Jessica in the recent episode.

With alot of the preview footage and pics for the finale showing numerous characters looking to the skies,I called it at half season and I'm saying it again,Nathan flies Peter into the sky to blow up and either blows his secret or dies in the process.

I am looking forward to this episode as well. I hope they don't make it a cliffhanger ending and make us wait forever for some of the story lines to be resolved. :) I am however looking forward to some new charcters next season.

Not sure if people knew this already but today on the Today show the cast of Heroes was on and they said the last 3 min of the finale is the first 2 of next season. Not sure how they are going to do this if next season is about each character.

This episode needs to be on my TV right now!! Seriously, it's bad enough sitting through 2 very boring classes every Monday waitng for just a regular episode of Heroes. I just might go insane next week!

Claire bear better be around in season 2!!!

Which explains why Simone and her father were in the Canadian preview. Since next season is called "Generations," and will give more background into the Numerati and the current generation (as well as future generations?), that isn't surprising.
