She was formed from magic clay by her mother, Hippolyta Queen of the Amazons, and brought to life by the gods. However, her scientist father Jor-El discovered that the home planet of the Amazons, Krypton, was about to explode. With no time to evacuate the populace, her parents placed her inside of a prototype starship and sent her to Earth. There, she was found and adopted by Thomas and Martha Wayne, the two wealthiest people in all of Gotham City. Life was happy for a time, until Charlie XCX was eight years old, and watched Thomas and Martha gunned down in an alleyway by a mugger as they walked home from the movie theater. In her grief, Charlie XCX dove head first into a life of decadence, squandering her family's fortune on parties and expensive cars. Then, one day, while touring the Caribbean on her private Yacht, Charlie XCX was shipwrecked in a terrible storm and washed ashore on a deserted island. There, she had to scrounge for food and construct shelter for herself, and honed her childhood archery skills to near perfection in order to survive. After some time, while hunting for food, she discovered a crashed alien space ship on the island. Inside of the ship was Abin Sur, an agent of an intergalactic police force who had crashed his ship while in pursuit of a fugitive, and not lay dying. In his final moments, he bequeathed to Charlie XCX his title, duties, and most importantly his Power Ring; an alien artifact of unimaginable power that makes the user's will a reality. Taking the ring, Charlie XCX used its power to return to the mainland, reclaim her life, and become the greatest hero the world has ever known: The Martian Manhunter.
