TV's No. 1 network may be ready to conjure up the Power of Three: Vulture has learned that a remake of the hit Aaron Spelling–produced WB drama Charmed is in the works at CBS. Details are scant right now, but Party of Five co-creator Chris Keyser and partner Sydney Sidner are co-writing the project, which insiders describe as a "re-imagining" of the original series about a sisterhood of witches who use their powers for good.

CBS TV Studios, which has the rights to all of the Spelling library, is producing the project alongside the Tannenbaum Company. It's still very early in the development process: CBS has only ordered a script for a pilot, and it hasn't committed to filming anything. As Wonder Woman fans will attest, a pilot script does not a revival make. But it's not hard to see why this reboot is being put together.

For one thing, horror and fantasy are hot right now on TV: The Walking Dead is TV's biggest show among viewers under 50; American Horror Story: Coven has been massive this fall; Lifetime is doing okay ratings with the Charmed- inspired Witches of East End; Once Upon a Time is ABC's biggest Sunday hit; and NBC's Grimm has been one of the network's few success stories in recent years. Charmed was also one of the now-defunct WB Network's longest and most successful series: Starring Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs, and, for a while, Shannen Doherty, it ran for eight seasons and 178 episodes. And even though it left the air more than seven years ago, repeats still air on both TNT and WE. Also: A report last year said Charmed was the second most binged show on Netflix. So, yeah: This seems at least as logical as a Murder, She Wrote revival.

All I can say is....... really?

Like I said in the Cancelled Shows thread, no one asked for this. Particularly because the original wasn't very good.

Congratulations to Charmed fans. All 8 or 9 of them.

Interesting. If the cast is decent I'll give it a look.

This is probably the oddest TV news I've ever heard. A reboot of a not particularly impactful or well remembered TV show that only went off the air only seven years ago on a completely different network. Huh.

That being said, the original was terrible and I have a very passionate dislike for it, so if they remake it into an actually good show I'd be pretty amused by that. That should happen more often, remaking really bad things and fixing the problems instead of remaking good things that were fine the first time around.

I'm one of them! :argh: Well, the first few seasons at least. :hrt: My friends and I were obsessed with that and Buffy. :funny:

Hmmm... Not sure how my girlfriend's going to react to this. She already went bonkers when I explained to her about the Season Nine comic.

I like Charmed. It has it's moments.

So you can say they weren't charming then?

I like Charmed. It has it's moments.

All of them terrible.

I don't care what ANY of you say seasons 1-4 were da bomb! I'm not against a reboot but this is way too early. But if this happens I expect cameos from the original cast.

But you can thank AHS:Coven for this.

But, Holly Marie Combs & Alyssa Milano were great to look at though.:hrt:

Not all the seasons were bad. I did enjoy season 6 with the arrival of Chris and the twist to his identity.

Well my mom and sister will be thrilled

Ha, same here. My mom loved the show. Well, hopefully the effects will actually be better this time. And demons won't jut be muscly men with body paint. Then even I might watch it. Charmed looked just really poor compared to shows like Buffy and Supernatural.

The first 4 seasons actually had demonic demons show up. And they did a good job with most of the effects I thought. But Rose McGowan and Alyssa Milano are not happy about this reboot.

I'd say that when the show found its groove, probably Shannon's last season up through Rose's first two, it found a perfect balance between the humor and drama along with decently done over-arching storylines that made it perfectly serviceable tv show. Once it turned into the "lets see what whacky hijinks the gals can get into this week!" kinda writing, then it became rather unbearable and dumb, but in the beginning it was a good show.

All Hell Breaks Loose is probably one of my favorite season finales of any show, Holly and Shannen acted the hell out of that episode, along with Holly having to mourn Shannens depature/Prues death.

Well holy hell, Shannen Dohoerty said she would do a Charmed reunion movie. I want this more than I want a new show!

of course she is. her most recent work is an online college commercial.

besides didn't everybody on that show hate working with her?

By her own choice. She has enough money to retire if she wanted, plus she owns 5% of Charmed so she gets those nice paychecks.

Only people she bumped heads with her Alyssa, Spelling and Kern. But her and Alyssa have since made up. Which probably would have happened sooner if they didn't try to force the two to like each other and fire her over being afraid of it ruining the show.

Good for her. The commercial must have been done for exposure or to feed the acting bug.
