Since Gamecube Controllers will be in demand with Brawl coming out, it'd only make sense for Nintendo to re-release them, especially the Wavebird, since they're impossible to find new now.

So today I emailed Nintendo this:

Because Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be compatible Gamecube controllers, there will be a high demand for consumers to purchase new Gamecube controllers, especially the Wavebird Wireless controllers. Does Nintendo have any plans to re-release wired Gamecube controllers and the Wavebird wireless controllers? I, like many people, have used their Gamecube controllers very much over the years leaving them very worn out and almost unusable. However, Nintendo does not offer repair service for them. People are left to purchase new ones which are difficult to find in stores. I hope Nintendo does have plans to re-release both wired and wireless Gamecube controllers in the future. If not, I hope this email is enough to make Nintendo consider this. I believe it would be a very appropriate decision due to the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Thank you

Here's the response I got:

We appreciate hearing about the types of products that you would like to see from us in the future. While there hasn't been an announcement concerning re-releasing the Nintendo GameCube WaveBird Wireless Controller, you never know what the future holds! As the worldwide leader and innovator in the creation of interactive entertainment, and because of our history of pushing the limits of gameplay and design, you can always count on Nintendo offering the most imaginative products.

In the meantime, keep checking our website's "What's New" section (http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew) for the latest information and announcements.

Hooray for computer generated responses! Take out the "re-releasing the Nintendo Gamecube Wavebird Wireless Controller" and you can put just about anything in there. I love how then they go on to say they're "innovators in the creating of interactive entertainment". That's fine and all, but unfortunately has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

You thought someone would actually respond to you? That said, I doubt there will be a high demand for Wavebird controllers with Brawl being released. People aren't going to spend an extra $30-35 for a controller. What's wrong with the classic controller, that should work fine and cost less.

Reminds me of the WWE "future endeavors" messages on their website :hehe: .

What I still can't believe, is that people actually try and email stuff to these companies and expect anything other than an automated reply.

I expected at least to get a reply that at least made more sense. And people will want Wavebirds again. Wireless is the way to go now. The Classic Controller is NOT the same thing. Hold one, then hold a GC controller. There's a big difference.

I expected something more like: "Nintendo has no plans, at this time, to re-release Gamecube controllers". Not them puffing their chest about how they're leaders of innovation now.

maybe you should have treated your controllers better? I've got 4 ready to go come sunday

Thank goodness I brought 4 Wavebirds off the same guy on Ebay shortly after I got my Wii console for a decent price. I used the anti-germ wipes on all of them and they were ready to go. All worked great btw.

I treat my controllers fine. The thing is the analog stick becomes very lose after you play with it for so long. A lose analog stick is completely useless. Also the R shoulder button on one makes a "spring" noise and sometimes doesn't respond. That's a freak thing I've only had happen to one controller.

I actually bought a GC controller a year or 2 ago that I still haven't opened. I just think that people who didn't buy a GC shouldn't settle for old, used controllers or crappy 3rd party ones.

hardcore fans will probably have gamecube controllers still...

non-hardcore fans probably don't even notice or care if you can use the GC controller. and will adjust to the wii/classic controlers

Some may need new ones since their old ones may be worn out.

Or they'll see you can use the GC controller in Brawl and want to buy some. But since Nintendo doesn't make them anymore, they won't be able to.

I'm gonna have a hell of a time finding one, I just know it.

Wow. We just got a ton of (wired) Gamecube controllers down at Fry's. We've got a bunch sitting next to our tiny selection of Gamecube games* and a few next to the Wii games.

*Viewtiful Joe, Smash Bros. Melee, X2: Wolverine's Revenge, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Ice Age 2, Lego Star Wars II, and Madden 08. That's literally it. And Melee is still $30!

I'm looking forward to playign with the Wii remote. I don't understand the need to be able to use an older controller.

Familiarity. People know how to play Smash Bros. on the gamecube's controller, and they want that familiarity back.

Personally, I haven't decided if I want to use the Wiimote or a classic controller.

Did you get a new shipment of GC controllers?

They're either new, or the Fry's warehouse was hoarding a large quantity of them until recently. But yeah, we only just got them in the past month.

The Gamestop in my neighborhood is sellin' Wavebirds out the wazoo.

Well, I don't know...but Nintendo have been the most helpful service I've ever came across.
They've been so damn helpful with new handles for my Wii-mote, and sent four Wii-condoms immediately for free. I've never had a single complaint with them.

Spidey-Bat just got unlucky :o

My friend gave me his wave bird, what a loser lol. Im jokin haha hes cool
