My daughter who is four is really into superheroes, and I'd really like to be able to show her a superhero cartoon. But I'm not really sure what she would be able to watch, since I assume quite a few shows would have too much violence for her.

I can check shows out before she watches them, of course, but I'm not really sure where to start.

So if I could have a couple of suggestions, I could check those out and see if they're suitable to her. Thanks!

I say start her out on the classics (He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Blackstar, Galaxy Rangers, Voltron, Bionic Six, etc.)

The language and violence is pretty tame in those shows compared to some of the newer shows nowadays.

That's what I did with my kids. Good luck.

The problem with He-Man and She-Ra is that they're stupid, which I personally think is more detrimental to kids than violent content.

I think you're going to have to be more specific. What do you mean by too much violence? Batman the Animated Series has guys punching other guys, but that's about as far as it goes and it doesn't have any kind of gore or blood that might actually scare a kid too much. Knowing how old your child is would also be a plus.

Hanna Barbara's Heroes like - Space Ghost, Birdman, Mightor, The Herculoids, Blue Falcon are good.

I did mention that she was four. As for how much violence is too much, that's pretty hard to answer. You can have one show or movie, where people are being killed with guns or swords, yet it still feels less violent than another where there is simply just punching. It's less about exactly what is being done, and more about how brutal and visceral it is.

Some good suggestions here so far. I'm more after "superhero" specifically, like the costumed figure who protects a modern day city for the most part. Though some other shows here look interesting as well, so I'll check those out too.

That new ultimate spider-man might be good for her, of course she might be too smart for it already. :o

I think Marvel Super Hero Squad (which I think may have been made specifically for four year olds) and Batman: The Brave and the Bold would be good.

i definitely agree with this.

Ben 10, Darkwing Duck, Duck Dodgers are also good. I'm in a duck mood for some reason.

Lol, yeah Spawn would be a good one if you want to scare the hell out of your kid.

When I was four the cartoons I watched were stuff aimed at children under 10. Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Alvin and the Chipmunks etc...Not much violence in those.

Superhero cartoons outside of Marvel Superhero Squad are generally targeting kids a little older than four since there's usually violent sequences and the material is a little too sophisticated for a kid that young.

Um, you said shes into superheros but you didnt specify how. Like whats her intro to superheros. The movies?

If its the movies then she should be fine with watching stuff like Teen Titans or Superman the Animated Series.

Id also recommend Avatar the Last Airbender. Its not a superhero cartoon but its one of the best animated series in the last 10 years.

Isn't Transformers: Rescue Bots similer to Marvel Super Hero Squad?

How about Care Bears or Rainbow Brite? Not exactly superheroes along the lines of Spider-Man & other characters but I considered them superheroes growing up.

Sorry, missed that.

Yeah, I'd just start her on Batman: The Animated series. It's pretty, has good atmosphere, it's exciting, and has fairly simplistic storytelling compared to the other DC cartoons made by the same people later on. Start with Batman, then graduate to Superman, Batman Beyond, and then Justice League.

Which reminds me anyone remember the Gummy Bears Anamiated Series? They were kind of in the same vain as ones you mentioned so It made me think of them.

I agree with Nemi. I'd go with the Super Hero Squad. The violence is minimal and the characters are geared toward very young viewers. There are also a lot of "in" jokes aimed at adult comic book fans that make the show pleasant if you are watching with a youngster.

Though everybody kinda looks like they're dwarves for some reason. If she's freaked out by Dwarves, you've been warned. :o

And, for some reason, everyone has only 4 fingers.

Basically, any cartoon from before 1985 will be suitable for a four year old. The violence is minimal and the content very kid-friendly due to oppressive censorship standards. You can even go as high as, say, 1993, but after you start pushing the boundaries.

spider -man and his amazing friends

The Phantom
Fantastic Four
Iron Man
Robocop
Rambo

These are not superhero, but great action adventure cartoons, they would be far more entertaining than the actual superhero cartoons of the 80s...

Ullysses 31
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Dogtanian and the 3 Muskahounds
Dungeons and Dragons
