I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again. I’m realizing that I can slow down.

Moretz added that the pace she was working at was causing her to lose focus; she started thinking more about box-office, less about why she started acting in the first place. Speaking with E! News, the actress elaborated on her decision:

It’s not particularly time off. I’m just becoming more picky and particular about what roles I’m choosing. I think as an actor you have a huge opportunity to find yourself through the roles that you choose. I think it’s my time, right now in my life, to figure out who I am and what I am and what I want and what this industry means. Why not sit back, slow down, realize I’m 19 and go, “Hey, let’s make stuff that really, really hits hard with who I am and helps me figure out what it means to be a 19-year-old actor who is just doing her thing.”

hopefully she does what Saoirse Ronan did and stop doing dumb hollywood movies and get challenging dramatic film roles

her film choices have been abysmal since Hugo so i think this is a smart move

She's pretty much box office poison at this point. A break is probably the best thing for her.

Yeah, the girl's only 19. Let her live her life. In fact, this is the type of thing a lot of young actors can benefit from. That much exposure at such a young age can really **** you up.

I mean good for her for why she's doing it but good luck with climbing back to the top even on the indie scene.

I'm sure what she's doing will leave a bad taste in some higher up people's mouths

But do you girl

Yeah, I suspect she's sick of doing all the big budget **** for a while and doesn't wanna become "that chick."

Dem lips doe.

:o

Really? Neighbors 2 did really well at the BO. If I Stay did really well too. She seems to have a solid track record.

Hate to say it but it's true. Rogen & Efron brought her on board and in the end they barely grossed half of what the first film made with a higher budget. Not to mention pretty much every movie since 2012/13 has been a mediocre performance or an outright flop.

She's right, she needs to readjust and then get back in the game. Gosling took a similar approach a few years back.

I think more actors like her could learn a thing or two by saying no to the stack of 10-20 scripts their agents or manager send them and demand them to pick two or three or however many. The fact is that a lot of times 10 out of 10 of those scripts will be garbage.

Neighbors 2 did nowhere near as well as the original. It only made $55 million domestic compared to $150 million of the first. It was largely seen as a disappointment.

5th Wave bombed. And so did Kick-Ass 2.

Still wouldnt say she's box office poison. She just hasn't really had a huge hit. I dont think any of her recent movies really bombed hard

It's not like she's Taylor Kitsch (still love you Riggins)

I can see why she's wanting to take a step back and be more discerning about her roles. Not to mention, she's still a teenaged girl essentially forced to grow up in the entertainment industry which can be its own can of worms.

chloe has taken too many bad movies in a row

dark shadows
carrie
movie 43
kick ass 2
5th wave
if i stay

time to take a step back

Smart move. The time off will help her career. She's only 19. She has plenty of time.

Also. She is right. She really needs to pick what she wants to do and who she wants to be. In what kind of movies she wants to have roles, with who is sitting on director chair or starring next to her.

Her Carrie remake cost $30 million excluding marketing & made about $38 million worldwide. That's a pretty big bomb.

The only movie she can really claim as a success of any kind is Neighbors 2 despite the decreased business when compared to the first film.

In most cases when someone "takes a break" from Hollywood, they miss the easy money and fame but when they come knocking Hollywood is no longer interested.

Most stars have a limited life span as a major star. After that window is gone, you can't get any scripts.

No idea where you got that number. It grossed 84 mill.

No idea where you're getting any of your numbers because she has had some successes.
-If I Stay made 78 mill on a 11 mill budget
-5th Wave made 110 mill on a 37 mill budget
-and if you want to count The Equalizer (I dont because her role while important was so small it was basically a cameo) that made 190+ mil on a 52 mill budget
-Kick Ass 2 didn't do that well but it still made 60 mill on a 28 mill budget.
-Even f***ing Movie 43 made 32 mill on a 6 mill budget, if you want to count that one
-And then there's Neighbors 2 that has been mentioned
^^^Those are all her major wide releases. None of them bombed or even came close.

I'm not saying those movies are good because I assume theyre not from what Ive seen. If someone is talking quality or memorable roles, I can't debate that. I'd probably agree with them.
But the notion that she is box office poison is just silly.

I don't think she needs to take a break. Just be more selective in her roles.

That's what she's saying she's doing I think. Or at least going to try to do

Most 19 year old actors would kill to get those opportunities. Cream rises to the top. She has never and will never be the main star of a movie - right or wrong. She should have taken what was already agreed, did her damn best, be professional then with the next batch of movies, choose those carefully. Like McCourtney did.

She has done a ton of movies by the age of 19. She has over 50 credits for films and television to her name. Taking less roles and focusing on them is not a bad thing.
