Danny Elfman did a pretty good job, not one of the best but certainly qualifies as a good score in my opinion. Enter Chris Young for SM3 and that was literally some of the WORST score music I ever heard in my life. It was terrible, its like it was made up by some 5th grader...:o

Now, I know Elfman is like super angry at Sam Raimi and thinks he is the "worst" director he has ever collaborated with but it'd be nice if Raimi and Elfman made nice and reunited for SM4....thats unlikely but at least drop Chris Young, his music was truly disgusting. Anyone else but him, please (sorry, imo a good musical score can REALLY elevate the quality of a film.)

Personally, I loved Chris Young's score, so I would love for him to return. However, if he doesn't come back, I'm okay with that as well.

the score was one of the things i liked least about spidey 3. lose him.

No freakin' Danny Elfman, please. The guy is a rot. I forgot all about when you bring back Sam Raimi, you also bring back Elfman's generic music. Yet another reason why a new director is needed. Go with a new composer, but this time, allow him to start from scratch. This will also help to create something new and different moods from the previous films.

I'm referring to the people on the hype. Its that confusing, aye?

I'm mixed about the SM3 music.

I thought the music for symbiote Spidey's reveal was laughable - Dun Dun Duuuun!

BU-ut, I loved where he was on the roof of the church.

I'd like someone else, please.

I loved Sandman's theme...the rest was ok to meh

I'm half and half split by this, because a part of me really liked the poetic-type of music that shone in some parts(ex. "Birth of Sandman" sequence), and also, he came on-board 'Spider-Man 3' after doing these weird films, if I recall, and wasn't really comfortable with the franchise, so... no harm done, if you ask me. However, I would like to see them try and get someone new, again... I'd like to see them experiment a lot more, rather than just have the same tracks playing over and over again, no offense to Elfman and Young, but I'm honestly getting sick of the same damn opening sequence we've been seeing for the past three films again and again, and this time... I'd like to hear them have a jazzed-up version of the original "Spider-Man" song, from the first-animated series, where fans who remember that song, can actually follow what they know, follow along with the beat, and, I think that it'd be a nice way to get audience members pumped for the film.

I prefer they search for someone else.

Keep him. The "Birth of Sandman" song dwarfs anything that Elfman ever wrote for the series (except maybe the main theme, but that borrows too heavily from Batman). The real tragedy of SM3 was that most of his themes didn't even get used in the movie.

I agree.

Yeah, too much.

The sad part is, no matter who they get to score SM4/SM5, Sam Raimi/Sony will force them to use Elfman's generic singing angels music.

I'd rather have danny elfman back
Or use elfmans main theme again
and search for someone entirely new :)

This guy has to go, one of the many things that I hated about part 3. The only good theme in that movie was the Danny Elfman stuff and the Sandman Birth scene.

Honestly, I don't care. I loved some of the stuff he did, but I wouldn't mind a replacement.

His music is far too obvious. It's interesting, but clunky.

They need to sort out their music in SM4/5, it came on far too strong in SM3. Tone it down and get someone else.

Ermmm...why would they keep 'Birth of Sandman' if sandman is not in the movie at all?(Well thats not a certainty but I doubt he'll show up in either 4 or 5)

Also I dont think Birth of Sandman was that good, it was better than most of the crap Chris Young gave us but it wasn't good. Where as Elfman has had so pretty good tracks (not great but good) especially with Spider-man 1. Such as Final Confrontation, The Main Titles, Finale (now that is an amazing track), Specter of the Goblin, etc.

Birth of Sandman was the only good one Chris did, and that was just okay.

EDIT: Not finale....I meant farwell :ninja:

The score was probably what I hated most of spidey 3, i say chris young must be stopped, no matter the cost!!

I would like elfman to return but i'm open to somebody new, granted they wont be allowed to deviate too much from elfmans previous work.

Nope, the only good score Danny Elfman has ever done was Batman, after that, everything else sounded like...well...Batman.

Yes! Finally, somebody who agrees with me!...

"Birth of Venom" is cool too.

The only theme I can say I truly, truly hated was the theme for the black suit, just because it seemed so innappropriate and campy. But then, the entire point of "emo Peter" was that he was campy and jazz-age inspired. It's a good theme I guess but definitely a creative direction I disagree with.

I mean, come on, if you get rid of Chris Young, who are you going to get? Elfman's out. Williams is ancient. Zimmer is boring and generic.

are you kidding me?
teh black suit theme in noooo way was fitting the tone of the movie. so what if he wa dancing and he was EMO.
its the darkest movie and has the cheesiest music.

the black suit theme was a disaster and it fails IMO on every level. the scene where he is looking at the reflection should have been epic-dark. but then the music starts and it pulls you out of the scene.

^^Exactly, Chris Young doesn't know what the hell he is doing. He is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE composer and if we don't get Elfman back please just get someone else!!! You are so right....the music should've been dark and gloomy, instead its the fluffiest out of the three...how ironic, huh? :whatever:

And I cant beleive the comments in here..."Hans Zimmer is boring and generic"?? He is like infinitely better than that piece of crap known as chris Young. ANd Elfman's themes don't sound exactly like Batman. It irks me when people say this :whatever:...there is a distinctive quality about EVERY composer. When you listen to them you can say; that sounds like something 'Zimmer' or 'Williams' would do. It is like an artist's style of painting and drawing....that doesn't mean it is identical. (and Edward Scissorhands is definitely Elfman's best, not batman :ninja: )

I liked things that Young did ("Birth of Sandman" and the church scene, and I actually liked the Black Spider-Man theme), but I had two main gripes: 1) Elfman had established a sound and feel with his music for 1 and 2 (and those who had beefs with the music in 2 and 3, let us not forget that there were editorial issues resulting in tracked music and other stuff), and 3 seemed a bit much of a departure. I can appreciate the challenge of trying to stay in the same vein of previous films in a series while retaining your own individual voice, but something a little closer to the sound of the first two would really help the cohesion. 2) I think there might have been one time outside of the main titles in which Young used a different arrangement of the Spider-Man theme, and beyond that, it was all the same basic arrangement from near the end of the main titles. I wouldn't be surprised if that was a matter of obsessive execs (and possibly Raimi?) getting stuck on that one. I also missed the "Responsibility" theme; I think he used it (basically the statement from "Farewell") in the scene where Peter pulls out the old suit, but it could've gotten some good mileage, and would've been very appropos in the film.

I find it hard to believe so many people are griping about Elfman's music as bland and generic. If you think that, I don't know how you're ever going to find music that interests you without being extreme.

All this said, if Raimi and Elfman could make amends and the execs and all could control themselves and let the score for the first film be the score for the first film, I would be pretty happy. But if they're not gonna do that, keep Young. Just try some variations on the main theme.
