Why oh why didn't they leave his Batman voice like that? It's perfection.
That's all I'm capable of right now.
There's so many things to love: DAT voice! Bale wearing Val Kilmer's suit! Amy as Rachel!
That stunned me!
I love seeing these things. The only disappointment is that it's taken us, what... 8 or 9 years to see it? So how long until we get to see Cavill in Reeve's supersuit screentest?
I can now imagine if Bale's voice was never tampered with in post production and the same for Bane. Oh how these great movies could have been even greater.
Sonar suit was always the best from Forever... and Bale even made it better. Loved how he appeared out of the shadows.
Wow Amy Adams auditioned for Rachel like how Henry Cavill auditioned for Batman
That is pretty much how he sounds in Begins.
It only changes when he growls.
Thought he said she was doing them a favor.
Yeah Amy wasn't auditioning. She was just reading Rachel's part as a favor to the casting director.
My favorite for some reason is the "swear to me" part.
She was still connected to the Nolan Bat Trilogy somehow. Talk about 6 degrees of separation!
That sucks. I should have known it'd be ripped from Batman News and put on YouTube sooner or later though :\
Yeah that was pretty cool. I like how we finally saw a bit of what she was talking about back in 2010:
In fairness, you did rip it from the TDK Trilogy Collector's Edition.
That clip of Bale's screen test is amazing. If only Nolan would have taken the filter off his voice during the last scene with the Joker in TDK, gah!
If only Amy was Dawes.. That audition was awesome to watch
Amazing video, so glad to see it.
I laughed so hard as Batman appears around the corner to grab "flass".
So awesome to watch this sort of stuff.
So true. Adams blows Holmes out of the water with just a few lines.
Cool audition tape. I would've liked Bale in a suit more like Kilmer's. And Adams would've been better as Dawes than either Holmes or Gyllenhaal.
How could Nolan write Dawes with Holmes in mind? What did he want her in that movie for?
Katie Holmes wasn't Christopher Nolan's choice; she was imposed on him by the studio from the get go. WB had found out that a demographic remained impervious to these superhero films: teenage girls. Therefore they tried to lure this audience by casting an actress which starred in a popular teen TV series (Dawson's Creek).
That's not strictly true. Nolan wrote the part for Holmes. They'd known each other since 2001 when Nolan was prepping Insomnia (their offices at WB were on the same lot), and he believed that she had the warm girl-next-door vibe he was aiming for with Rachel. I think he was right. So yeah, he was encouraged to write a female love interest by the studio, but he always wrote it with Holmes in mind. Nolan and his wife actually remain good friends with her post-Begins and attended her wedding in Italy (along with Bale and Caine).
Bale sounds badass in the audition tape, although he's still got that clueless expression where he looks like he's trying to read a Japanese instruction manual. Close your mouth and breathe through your nose, dammit.
That was super fun to watch. The Audition Bat-Voice was way more tolerable than the final one in Begins. And Amy Adams! Gosh I love her. Definitely want to see Cavill's audition now.
I actually find the audition voice a little safe and generic. I prefer the TDK/R growl, just not in all the scenes.
Examples- love it during the TDK ending montage, and in TDKR when he meets Catwoman in the tunnels. Less so in the bank vault in TDK and on the rooftop meeting with Dent/Gordon. I think those scenes are prime examples were they boosted the low end and distorted it too much in post too.
