Camila Cabello to Star in 'Cinderella' Reimagining From Kay Cannon, Sony (Exclusive)

Camila Cabello’s world will never be the same. The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is set to make her feature acting debut, teaming up with Kay Cannon, the director of Blockers, for a new telling of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella.

Plot details are being kept in a shoebox but the story is described as a modern reimagining of the traditional tale of the orphaned girl with an evil stepmother, with a musical bent thrown in for good measure. Sony is putting the project on the fast track for production.

Idina Menzel in Talks to Play Evil Stepmother in ‘Cinderella’

Idina Menzel is in negotiations to join Camila Cabello in Sony’s ''Cinderella'' portraying the evil stepmother. The news comes a day after the revelation that Billy Porter was in talks to play Cinderella’s fairy godmother. Sony had no comment on either possible casting.

Yes. What's the point of another Cinderella so soon? When the news was out, it was FOUR YEARS since last version (which was good take on the story).
How can they possible think of a way to make it better than Branagh's film? It will just be the same story again, but with a different tone.

If they really wanted to make something new and modern, they could have done like He's All That/She's All That and switch genders of the lead characters.
