It's doubtful. But I'm confident it will be comfortably better than the dreck Sony has been churning out since Spider-man 2.

I do not doubt that, but Raimi's first two is still the bar, and it sucks we have not gotten close. We shall see.

I don't expect Homecoming to match the two Raimi films, but I think it should be a good flick and a proper way to introduce Spider-Man into the MCU.

SPidey has a great rogue gallery, please give us a variety of them. Mysterio!

Nothing will beat Paul Giamatti tho. Lawd.

Mysterio is my top choice for Homecoming 2's villain. One of my favorite villains from the comics.

One of ASM2's sins (and there are countless) is absolutely wasting someone of the caliber of Paul Giamatti. Webb is a hack. I know a lot of the blame could and should be placed on the studio, but the actual minutia of directing was utterly terrible.

Patty Jenkins on Gal Gadot:

"I didn't get to choose her, but boy was I relieved once I realized who she was. That is like a make it or break it thing, who plays these characters. So when I first heard Zack Snyder has cast somebody as Wonder Woman, a movie I had wanted to make for a long time, I was cautious. But then, oh my God, they couldn't have found anybody better in the whole wide world.Just look at Gal Gadot when she smiles or when she meets somebody and shakes their hand. That is the embodiment of Wonder Woman. She is so beautiful and powerful, but kind and generous and thoughtful. She's just an amazing person."

I totally buy that Gal is a great person, but is she a great actress? It could go either way at this point. She was fine in BvS but wobbly in every WW trailer we've got.

Does Gal need to be a great actress to pull of WW? I wouldn't say so personally. She needs to be good at least, but not great IMO, either way, we shall see.

You're right in that she doesn't need to be a great actress. I'd be fine with "good" as long as the rest of the movie holds up. It's just irritating that Zack Snyder cast the entirety of the JL and here we are lowering our expectations for how capable of a performer Wonder Woman will be.

You don't have to be a good actor to fit a certain role though, look at Arnold as The Terminator. Different situation I know, but I think you get my point. She had moments in BvS and has in the trailer where she embodies the character for me. So we will see how it plays out with a whole movie focused on her.

Obviously Wonder Woman isn't the terminator so I'm not sure a limited actor can fit this role as snugly but I hear what you're saying. I was fine with her in BvS, but the trailers have each given me pause.

I think it's fair to say certain people suit certain roles. But at the same time something like the Terminator character is far different from a superhero. A superhero can't just look stone faced and determined the entire movie, which is kinda the only two expressions Gadot seems to have shown so far.

Spider-Man Homecoming will probably be a mid-tier MCU movie.

I liked a lot of the scenes I saw in homecoming trailer, but the trailer itself was gahbage. It feels like i've seen about 1hr30min of the film so far. lol

Eh, I wont see it in theaters tho.

Rental for me.

I think it's fair to say Groot showed more range so far than Gadot

To be fair to Snyder, he can be really good with casting. Man of Steel is an exceptionally well cast movie and though he hasn't been given the chance to show it, Cavill is well chosen for Clark. Certain roles in Watchmen were well chosen too.

I think it's hard to judge with trailers, lines are spoken out of context or sometimes just for the trailer itself. I think we will have to wait for the whole movie before we can judge. I have seen some moments in the trailer where she emotes really well, but again we will see.

I said in my post The Terminator character is far different, it it was the first example that came to my head when thinking of a role being suited to an actor who isn't the best. Arnold was never a good actor but chose his roles well and had screen presence and charisma. Maybe Conan would have been a better example for my point but I think you know what I meant.

I like how you chose for your example an actor with an unusual accent and a robotic delivery.

People assume playing an emotionless robot doesn't require talent, but assuming said character is important, then playing a robot like character does require talent. Think Williams in his robot movie or Brent Spinner as data. They both displayed quite a lot of talent when doing their roles.

Getting the audience to care and invest emotion into a character whom himself is incapable of emotion is no small feat.

Edit.. How did I forget Nimoy as Spock? Hes not a robot, but still another great example.

It's one thing for an trained actor such as Spiner or Nimoy to deliberately remove emotion from their performance, and quite another to just cast an actor with no such range as a robot. Arnold was prefect as the terminator, but it wasn't because he studied Stanislavsky.

I'll definitely see it opening weekend because it's MCU and I love Spider-Man, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't annoyed at how much I was bombarded with the first trailer. Pretty much every time I saw a movie in theaters between December and now, that thing was attached. Rogue One, Lego Batman, Logan, Kong, Beauty and the Beast, Power Rangers...I got so sick of it.
