Without doubt, Tony Stark is one of the most hated Marvel characters right now because of Civil War. Civil War shows Stark to be a selfish man that recruits villains to track down his Avengers compatriot Captain America and his anti registration group. Stark helps build a Thor cyborg to hunt down Storm and even kill Goliath.

So my question is: will Stark turn out to be selfish, evil and almost irredeemable like in Civil War? The rumor is the script has not been finalized yet, so this is a possibility.

but then you can't sympathisized with him, esp when you're trying to cater to the mainstream public.

It's going to be pre-Civil War, since this is about Stark's start.

lets hope not

the whole point of civil war is that its up to the reader to decide if stark is really being selfish or not, and if he was really on the wrong or right. they already said for the movie though that he will be a very down to earth person so that the audience can relate to him despite his large sums of money.

The thing with Civil War was that he wasn't being selfish and evil. He truly believed that what he was doing was right and good. That if registration didn't happen then heroes would simply be outlawed and there would be no one to help when superpowered threats came knocking. He hated that he alienated his friends and that some got hurt or killed, but he sacrificed his own happiness for what he believed was the greater good. That is the complete opposite of selfishness.

Exactly.

Just because he made some 'mistakes'...doesnt mean he didnt have the right intentions.

The lesser of two evils, y'know.

You mean like Hitler and Stalin?

It was a choice that had to be made, but it didn't make Stalin any less evil.

sigh, Civil War will have no effect on the movie, the film is a origin story, from 40 years ago, people need to stop assuming what is happening now will affect a origin film, that's like saying Reed Richards will be evil in Fantastic 4 2 because he was one of the leaders of the pro-registration act, like Tony was, let's try to separate the two stories ok.
