I think it goes without saying that Harvey Weinstein will be campaigning long and hard (i.e. bribery) to get one of his company's films in the Best Picture bin this year.

Most experts thought Nine would be the obvious choice, but considering how horrible that film is doing critic-wise, it could be a toss-up at this point.

So, which of these films (if either one) do you think should be up for Best Picture?

Personally, I'd have to go with The Road. And I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but Mortensen over Day-Lewis for Best Actor.

I didn't necessarily have an interest in Nine at all, anyway.

I haven't seen Nine yet, but I'm waiting for the dvd, especially after all the backlash it's been recivening. I liked The Road a lot. It's definitely not a fantastic adaption of Cormac McCarthy's book, but I thought it was executed well, at least for the most part. As for the Weinsteins' financial state, it's not getting any better since the films will only bring in a small fraction of their budget.
