Meaning, covers for movies which just so happen to resemble those for other, more famous movies. I just love the fact that some studios actually think the best way to sell their movie is to make it look like one that's already been popular.

Waitasec.....that's how every department in Hollywood works. Oh well.

The most obvious is Jaws. EVERY. SINGLE. MOVIE. About underwater monsters rips off the Jaws poster. Or Jaws 2.

And then there's this one, for the 1979 movie Dracula. Released October 19, 2004. Notice they just so happen to name Van Helsing on the cover.

Van Helsing, released on DVD exactly the same day.

Damn, and Mira Sorvino has won an Oscar as well. How undignified.

Hilariously, if you look below the word beasts, it says, ' A David Lister film'. Almsot reason enough to watch it.

Almost.

I love this one.

'The Dragon King? Do you think that's obvious enough for the European market?"
'What do you suggest?'

But... that movie is based on Der Ring Des Nibelungen (Richard Wagner's opera thingie)... the second title is actually more in line with what it should be named.

I know it is......but look at the imagery, the font, the way the logo is exactly like the Return of the King logo....

It's not like they've got 'from Wagner's Ring Cycle' on the cover.

Okay... I just figured your "The Dragon King"? etc... thing was implying they renamed the movie Curse of the Ring in Europe just because it'd make people think of LOTR.

this one made me giggle. haha

I wonder if you can find the opposite, a big movie copying a smaller movies poster or cover style.

Like I am sure the Lord of the Rings didn't invent the collage style or font placement seeon on those those posters, and you can probably find an evolution of fantasy movie posters leading up to that.

Also, I am sure that Lake Placid poster was meant to look like Jaws, that movie had a tongue in cheek quality about it.

Oh yeah, LotR uses classic fantasy codes and conventions.

There's one that's SO ripped off of Basic Instinct 1. I can't remember what it's called but it's basically the same as the Basic Instinct poster, just with different people. Exactly the same. No different colours or anything: exactly the same save for people.

The Return's poster is similar to that of The Skeleton Key

Who cares. Skeleton Key was okay, the Return looks okay, but Sarah Michelle Gellar as a brunette . Finally got rid of the blonde crap. Isn't brunette her natural hair colour, anyway?

How about the fact that we only see Tom Cruise's RIGHT side???
This has been my biggest pet peeve with Tom Cruise movies... the posters ALL look the same!!
