Clayface written by Mike Flanagan

Here for it

Deadline says Clayface also is a prominent character in Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2.
That’s something they claimed in their original story in 2023, too. Not sure if I 100% buy it.

Its ridiculous that he gets a film before Catwoman of ALLLLLL Bat characters. And do we really need more bat villains getting films? Does DC not have ANY other characters that can be adapted? No?

Flanagan only writing and not directing takes a lot of winds out the sails on this for me. A director-for-hire type for a movie that Flanagan pitched from scratch just makes the whole thing feel like a half-measure. Idk, kind of got the polar opposite response for me compared to the Luca Sgt. Rock news

Interesting choice if it's part of the DCU. Arguably it's a b-list batman villain with likely no batman showing up.

It will also be strange if clayface is in the batman part II that you have two iterations of the character. Obviously there has been different iterations in the comics but confusing from a general audience perspective.

I do like Flanagan's work so that is good news and Reeves is also producing.

I wonder if this will be part of the Reeves' Batman universe, part of the DCU or just a random Elseworlds type of film. I'm looking forward to it no matter what.

I love this. This is how you mine characters. Sony could learn a thing or two.

I actually hope this is Reeves-verse, the character getting a solo film means he probably won’t be the main villain in Part II, but a major side player like Oz

I'd almost prefer the character just be used in a Batman movie, or at least introduce there first then get a spin-off

Jeff Sneider believes James Gunn will direct this himself. He pointed out on his podcast that movies don’t get greenlit unless there’s already a director signed on.

So Clayface will have a horror vibe. Good idea if he will be the DCU Clayface. Loved House of Usher and Midnight Mass on Netflix. I got used to Flanagan being my go to Halloween director for Netflix the last few years. Looking forward to this project.

Yea this could work with a low budget. Still probably would have preferred a nonbatman villain movie but could work with a good director.

40M budget sounds perfect.
Fingers crossed that, if this one does big numbers, no one has the bright idea of making a sequel for 5x the original budget. And turning it into a musical. :o

What about a romantic comedy...

Clayface’s story is actually tragic. Flanagan is a master at telling these types of horror stories. Especially the backstory on Batman the Animated Series. I bet this will be the DCU Clayface even though Reeves is producing the movie.
