I cleaned the screen earlier today with windex. Like most household cleaners i applied heavily and wiped down with my shamwow but it looked like some residue may have remained. The picture has heavy streaking and a severe rainbow along the bottom. When i turned it on, there was a loud pop and like a fart sound and i get no picture now. What gives? The windex is an older bottle. What do now?

Not supposed to use Windex on LCD, LED, or Plasma screens. They can permanently smudge and in the cases of Plasma, wipes off their protected coating.

time to buy a new tv and next time DON'T use Windex, use a microfiber cloth slightly damp on a LCD/LED/Plasma TV.

Buy a bag of fig newtons. Put three in your mouth (not less, as that will not be strong enough, not more as that may overwhelm it), chew thoroughly until it is complete mushy goo, and then spit it into your hand and completely wipe down the screen with it.

Figs contain a special natural enzyme that counteracts the effects of Windex.

If you'd just manned up and climbed K2 like I told you to, this wouldn't have happened.

That's the only thing I have that is strong enough to clean the nicotine off my tv screen. I don't spray it directly on the screen just on the paper towel but that is another big no no to use one of those I guess.

Just use toothpaste on the whole screen. It works with scratched video games too.

Whatever happened to just using a damp cloth/paper towel to clean things? Now we have a new fangled product for all types of surfaces and objects. Back in my day we used a little lemon and water.

I think if you just do this, except to your TV, you should be fine.
