Splendid actor. He will be missed.

Cliff Robertson, who starred as John F. Kennedy in a 1963 World War II drama and later won an Academy Award for his portrayal of a mentally disabled bakery janitor in the movie "Charly," died Saturday, one day after his 88th birthday.

Robertson, who also played a real-life role as the whistle-blower in the check-forging scandal of then-Columbia Pictures President David Begelman that rocked Hollywood in the late 1970s, died at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Long Island, according to Evelyn Christel, his longtime personal secretary. His family said he died of natural causes.

In a more than 50-year career in films, Robertson appeared in some 60 movies, including "PT 109," "My Six Loves," "Sunday in New York," "The Best Man," "The Devil's Brigade," "Three Days of the Condor," "Obsession" and "Star 80."

More recently, he played Uncle Ben Parker in the "Spider-Man" films.

Throughout his career, Robertson worked regularly in television, including delivering an Emmy Award-winning performance in "The Game," a 1965 drama on "Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre."

RIP Cliff. What a terrific actor, and what a terrific Uncle Ben.

R.I.P.

He was a wonderful Uncle Ben and a great actor all around. I remember him starring in the 60's Adam West Batman show, too, as a villainous cowboy called Shame.

He will be remembered by the comic book fans.

Damn...he was a great actor....I just watched PT109 last night on the Military channel.....he'll be missed.

NOOOO!!! :csad:

This man was a phenomenal actor and a fantastic Uncle Ben. He seemed like a really good sprited person overall.

R.I.P. Cliff. You will truly be missed.

Oh my God... :csad:

He captured the warmth of Uncle Ben so well, and set the bar so damn high.

R.I.P.

Just saw it, he was a great Uncle Ben

Oh my god. I just read the news. So sad. :( & just yesterday I was on IMDB & noticed it was his 88th birthday & I was looking at his filmography and was thinking to myself how he hadn't done another movie after SM3, which is fine and all considering his age and all, but woah.

His acting and warmth really made me care for the character. Sad to hear this.

RIP his death scene in SM always gives me a lump in my throat.

I literally said "NOOO!" and then explained to the confused people that Uncle Ben died.:(

Very sad news.
He will be missed.
RIP Uncle Ben.

I loved the scene with him talking to Peter in SM2. That was very well done and powerful.

As I said in the Rami forum, this has truly and deeply saddened me. He was an amazing Uncle Ben and an amazing person overall.

R.I.P. Cliff! You will be missed, my friend!
