Has anyone seen it? If you did what did you think of it?

It was entertaining but not as good as the book. Much like I hear he is remaking his Hellraiser because originally he had a tiny budget as well as being new to Directing, he should remake that one with a larger budget. I do like it still and own it on DVD, but would like to see a version a little closer to his story. Director David Cronenberg(Scanners, Videodrome, The Fly remake) as the serial killer with the mask that looks like it was ripped off for scarecrow in Batman Begins was definetly a plus.

Yeah that was the FIRST thing I thought when I saw Begins in the theaters that the Scarecrow resembled Cronenberg's character in and out of costume. I always , and stilll do, thought Cronenberg's mask was better and more menacing than Murphy's. I heard that Barker's film was edited badly. And lost 20-25 minutes of footage on the cutting room floor and had to do reshoots. So hopefully he'll release a Director's cut version of Niightbreed.

i haven't seen this movie in a LOOOOONG ass time, but when i did, back in the early 90's, i thought it was cool but only because of the bizarre characters...i didn't pay much attention to the story.

I honestly don't believe we'll ever see the Director's Cut, sad to say.:csad: Barker was talking about releasing it a good 5-6 years ago but nothing ever happened so I bought the regular theatrical version. I'm still crossing my fingers but just have major doubts.

I really liked this moving when it came out. It had kinda a surreal feel to it, and the story was really interesting. I'd love to see a director's cut if they ever make one. I thought for awhile they talked about a sequel too...or did I dream that?

Not sure of a sequel, but I know Clive Barker was trying to get his Directors Cut together a few years back. If there is a sequel it will most likely be a studio involved only version. Barker only had the one story with those characters. Only thing that would make me interested in a sequel is if Barker wrote it himself or at least was producer.

It's been too long since I've seen it.

It's a pretty good metaphor for intolerance with very good (for the time) visuals.

Aside from Hellraiser, Nightbreed is my second favorite Clive Barker movie.

Funny thing about the movie is that whenever it is shown on some cable channels they bleep out were the one dreadlock monster says "God is an Astronaut" like it was something dirty or offensive.

Wasn't there a sequel called "Kabal" or something. THe main guy got renamed by the god of the nightbreed at the end.

Man, it's been a long time for that movie. I had the first issue of the comic adapt and that was pretty cool too.

"Kabal" is the name of the novel that Nightbreed is based on.

Interesting to note, all of the movies based on Barkers stories were ultimately renamed:

The Hellbound Heart - Hellraiser
The Forbidden - Candyman
The Last Illusion - Lord of Illusion

Lord of Illusion was good, and very weird. But I liked it.

I've never read any of Barker's novels. I don't know why since I am a fan of the movies.

Are they worth picking up?

I've only read Hellbound Heart and Kabal, but both are very good in my opinion.

I'd definitely love to see if Barker could top the cinematic version of the Cenobites from the original movie. The description for one of the female cenobites in the novel is beautifully graphic.

I love his style. I'd say pick them up, and just in case, he is homosexual and a number of his stories have some fairly graphic detailed homoerotica in them. He also has male/female scenes here and there as well. Just gave you the warning in case you might be offended by any of that.

man saw this movie at like 5 am, all strung out from the night before a couple months back. did anyone else get the 'accept people for who they are' vibe? or was it just a homo vibe? they only come out at night, they live underground, hiding themselves/true identities, im thinking it was an obvious metaphor for homosexuals. call me crazy.

solid flick at 5 am barely awake.

I'm pretty sure the message was in relation to homosexuals for the most part since Clive Barker himself is homosexual.

Doubt I'd find anything he can write offensive.
My fav writer is Palahniuk and he's pretty out there too.

I'll def check out a couple of his novels. THanks.

weird movie. The make up was amazing.

Clive Barker has promised his fans (Which I am a HUGE fan) a sequel to Cabal for years. Seriously...years...always the same story. "I'll write Cabal 2 right after I write "random project"."
