Any fans of this underrated 1990 supernatural horror fantasy from the guy who made Hellraiser and Candyman?

I saw it in theaters when i was 8 years old 3 times and i had cards, shirt, poster and comics as i still own the comics.

This one has the feel of Guillermo Del Toro's films and i can see how this movie could had been one of the inspirations to Mike Mignolia's Hellboy comics as they share the same themes, even Del Toro and Mignolia are fans of Barker.

I can't wait for the new Director's Cut coming to blu-ray this fall with some Cabal Cut footage as this movie was butchered by the studio in 1990 with forced reshoots and the original version was lost but the lost footage was discovered in it's new Cabal Cut.

I"ve never seen it but I'm looking forward to the DVD/BLU release. Especially since it's from Scream Factory, so I can expect beautiful cover art.

Now here's a blast from the past - I remember getting a character profile insert for Night breed in a Teen Titan annual. Was always fascinated with the character of Lude, on a visual level. Need to re-watch this movie as its been a while.

I love this film, it's probably the best Barker related film other than Hellraiser, I've always really enjoyed it.

I watched this via Youtube a couple of years ago and the creature FX were astoundingly good.

Always wondered if Nolan used Decker's (Cronenberg's character) look as inspiration for his version of Scarecrow. But then it also makes me wonder if Barker used Scarecrow as inspiration since both characters share some similarities.

Barker just the other day on his Facebook said Scream Factory is taking their time fixing the film up, especially the added scenes that make up the director's cut. I can't wait to see the extra footage Barker originally wanted in the film.

I am a big fan of this film. Nightbreed used to be shown late night on TV often and I saw it one night and really liked it.

Sadly I was never able to see the Cabal Cut in the theaters last year. The few showings were only in Los Angeles I believe.

For the Blu-ray release it's not going to be the Cabal Cut but the Director's Cut. Apparently the Cabal Cut includes all the footage Cliver Barker shot which made the film bloated so Scream Factory and Barker are trimming the fat to make his preferred version.

What about Candyman?

Maybe, i can see that.

Maybe they'll have some stuff from the Cabal Cut in the deleted scenes section of the BD.

Anyone else thinks this film is similar to Guillermo Del Toro's own work especially Pan's Labyrinth and to the Hellboy movies/comics? you can tell especially with monsters being good guys and some humans being evil theme.

Any guys here thought Shuna Shuna was hot?

I would be shocked if the extra footage from the Cabal Cut doesn't make it as an extra on the disc to be honest.

As for Shuna Shuna...

Being fairly young when I saw this there was a sort of an attraction but I think it was mainly due to her wild side hahaha. Ultimately, that nose and the quills just didn't do it for me. :funny:

Oh, Shun Shun was MAD tappable!!! :hubba

Damn right KenK.

But Figs she does have a nice body you have to admit and she is one sexy monster chick.

The new cut should be awesome to see what was missing from the theatrical cut.

The Smoke lady was quite sexy too i should say.

Who else thought Cronenberg did a good performance in this movie?

Cronenberg was a maniac in that movie. I wouldn't mind seeing his character explored more in a book/comic tie in. An interesting but twisted character. And I know the movie went into a little of his back story.

And I agree with you about Del Toro a few years ago I was open to a Nightbreed reboot or sequel directed by him (and still am). I remember I first saw HB2:TGA in theaters the Troll Market sequence took me back to Nightbreed. Elfman scoring both movies probably played a part in that as well.

Here is how the actress who played Shuna looks outside of costume. She would have definitely been hotter 24/25 years ago when the movie was actually being made. https://www.facebook.com/chris.mccorkindale

Oh yes indeed and the Smoke Lady who got naked was "smokin'" too, lol

Scream Factory, Morgan Creek Productions and Clive Barker's Seraphim, Inc. have set an October 28th release date for its long-mooted Nightbreed: The Director's Cut.

Nightbreed will be available in two retail versions: A 5,000 Unit Limited-Edition 3-Disc Blu-ray set and a Special Edition DVD & Blu-ray Combo.

Scream Factory, in conjunction with Warner Bros., was able to find the long-thought-missing original film elements and combed through over 600 boxes to locate not only the lost scenes but a treasure trove of never-before-seen footage as well. With nearly an hour of lost footage meticulously restored, the result is not only a more faithful adaptation of Clive Barker’s book Cabal, but also what he originally intended Nightbreed to be.

Clive Barker says, "This is film history and beyond my wildest dreams of realization. When Scream Factory told me that they found the Nightbreed film footage I was gob-smacked! This is the ultimate validation of choices made by myself and Mark Miller [of Seraphim Films] all the way back in 2008. As we embarked down the road of attempting to track down the lost footage, we looked at each other and said, 'Maybe one day they'll find it.' It's my pleasure to announce that the day has come. Speaking personally, I didn't allow myself to believe that it would. Even if we did find some footage (which we did in 2009 in the form of heavily degraded VHS tapes) and even if we did find a company willing to release the film (which we did in 2013 with Scream Factory, God bless them) the prospect of finding the actual lost film materials was remoter than I'd wanted to admit out loud. If the footage could not be found by those who had worked closest on it the same year it had been released, then what were the odds we'd be able to find anything 20 years on? But Scream Factory, in their commendable determination, kept up the search and thanks to them total reconstruction has been made a possibility. There's never been a reconstruction that's had as little chance of succeeding and yet has succeeded on as many fronts as this film has. It's unprecedented. To now have a movie that we can put together in the way that I fully intended it to be seen when I first set out to make this film in 1989 is extraordinary. The project has moved inexorably to this conclusion. Fate and the hard work of individuals such as Mark Miller, Russell Cherrington, Phil and Sarah Stokes, Occupy Midian, Morgan Creek, and ultimately, Scream Factory have made this a possibility and I could not be happier."

I pre-ordered the 3-disc LE with casino winnings and can't wait to see it, i sold my old bareboned DVD.

Was a huge fan of "Cabal," the book it's based on. I'm hoping the Cabal Cut fixes a lot of the problems with the film. I'm surprised that the people who hadn't read the novel could actually follow it.

I got my 3-disc BD set and watched both the TC and DC, after i wanted a long time to see the DC with the lost footage i heard about over the years my dream came true and the DC is a better cut out of the two even the ending is better. Scream Factory and Morgan Creek did an awesome restoration of the original cut in stunning PQ on both cuts and the 3-disc LE has superb extras as it's the best horror BD of the year with the Halloween collection, Vincent Price Collection Volume 2, Sleepaway Camp CE, Ginger Snaps or some others.

It was a shame the film was butchered by Morgan Creek back in 1989 and demanded reshoots as it was originally gonna be released August 1989 then pushed to Feb 1990 and all that. Now the original cut is finally avaliable to horror fans and fans of the film like myself as it's like how films like Blade Runner, Brazil, Legend by Ridley Scott, Star Wars Trilogy, Star Trek 1 & 2, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Terminator 2, E.T., Alien movies etc. all exist in different cuts and are available.

And who agrees that Shauna Sassi is on par with the likes with the mutated Catwoman from the Tyger Tyger episode of Batman TAS (remember that episode folks where Catwoman got turned into a really hot actual Cat-woman? i adore Catwoman in any version over the years even in that mutant form), Demona from Gargoyles, Sil from Species, Mona Lisa from the original Ninja Turtles toon (remember that sexy anthro mutant lizard brunette babe from Rapahel meets his match?), the semi-nude spirit lady from the dream sequence in Ghostbusters, Felicia/Morrigan from Darkstalkers, Cheetara/Pumaraya from Thundercats etc. in terms of hot creature babes of the 80s and 90s? i totally dug them as a kid and a teen in the 80s/90s.

I also dug Rachel the smoke lady, what a pair she had!
