Clive Owen will star opposite Jason Statham in action-thriller The Killer Elite, which director Gary McKendry will start shooting next month in Australia.

The film, based on Ranulph Fiennes' novel "The Feather Men," follows a group of former British special forces members being hunted by a team of assassins led by Statham's character, a former Navy Seal.

Owen will take on the role of a senior field operative and member of a clandestine group protecting former special forces soldiers and their families.

Variety says that shooting is set to start in Melbourne on May 13 until continue until mid-July. The movie will shoot in Wales in late July.

At first I thought this was going to be a remake of the Sam peckinpah movie, but now I am intrigued, although why they couldn't get a US actor to play the Navy Seal is beyond me.

There's conflicting reports as to who Statham is playing. Half of them say he's the assassin the other half say he's one of the SAS guys being hunted. It'd be good to have Christian Bale in this as well, uniting all the British tough guys in one film.

Either way I'm just glad they got some real tough guys for a film like this. It's about time Statham rose up above the Seagal/Van Damme level action films he was doing to working with Oscar nominess and winners in films like this and Potzdamer Platz.

De Niro, Purcell Join The Killer Elite Cast

Moviehole reports that Robert De Niro, Dominic Purcell ("Prison Break"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Chuck"), Aden Young ("The Starter Wife"), Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom), Lachy Hulme ("Macbeth") and Firass Dirani ("Underbelly: The Golden Mile") have joined Jason Statham and Clive Owen in The Killer Elite, to be directed by Gary McKendry.

Statham will star in the action thriller based on Ranulph Fiennes' best-seller "The Feathermen." Based on real events, the story follows a group of former British special forces members who are being hunted by assassins. Statham will play a former Navy Seal who is forced out of retirement to save his closest friend.

The project is currently filming in Melbourne.

This could be pretty badass with that cast they got going on.

Awesome cast. Awesome set up too with Statham being an unwilling bad guy and Clive Owen protecting the people Statham is being forced kill. It's going to be interesting to see how the story resolves itself.

BUMP.

I'm currently reading the novel itself. So here's what I expect:

Clive Owen is Spike Allen. He's our hero. No one really knows anything about who he is (Yet for me anyway). Pretty spot on casting, he's very intense, very no nonsense. Basically, the closest you can get to a real world Batman.

Statham is Danny De Villiers (Danny Bryce in the film). He's an ex-Navy SEAL, because he was adopted by an American woman after his family was killed. De Villiers as a character is very similar to Statham's roles in The Transporter and The Mechanic. So it's a spot on role for Statham.

Yvonne Strahovski is Anne. Danny's love. Their romance has a tragic conclusion (Not exactly what you think). Doesn't have a big role, will probably only have a scene, or a series of flashbacks.

Dominic Purcell is Davies. Danny's right hand man. There's another member, who is a techie nerd.

De Niro is Hunter. Who knows, he could potentially be playing an (even more) fictionalised Ranulph Fiennes?

Clive Owen's mustache creeps me out :ninja:

Looks like a cool movie

Wait, Clive Owen and Jason Statham are fighting????!!!!!I'm there.

That trailer is perfect. There's some kind of meta brilliance to it.

Statham tied to a chair, legs sweeps Clive Owen (with his glorious moustache), does a Rolling Thunder on him, runs through a glass window head first while dodging bullets and falls two storeys while still tied to the chair. Then it has the sheer ****ing audacity to smash cut to "Based on a true story".

Then we see Robert De Niro, who is almost 70 about to engage in hand to hand combat with assassins and Statham strangling Mr Eko with his own seat belt. At this point the trailer itself gives up all pretensions of being a Bourne style thriller and start playing The Scorpions over a montage of insane action beats, including Clive Owen stabbing Osama Bin Laden, Statham jumping off an exploding building, De Niro engaging in said hand to hand combat, Yvonne Strahovski's arse and topped off with the final shot of the trailer being Jason Statham uppercutting Clive Owen in the dick!

Robert De Niro is the father of Jason Statham.

Let me take this in for a moment.

:awesome:

:lmao: I got a good laugh from that but this looks like it could be Statham's best.

Does Statham ever stop working, this will be his 3rd film release this year and its only june. I really enjoyed The Mechanic and Blitz and this has Owen and De Niro in it so count me in...:woot:
