Cloverfield Director To Remake Let The Right One In

I'm more intrigued by the fact that Hammer Films is making movies again. Thats a studio whose name I have not seen outside of AMC in my life time.

A new date for the remake, according to Box Office Mojo: 15 January 2010

Not only will the remake probably waterdown the story, by making it a January release, you can tell that the studio is not taking it seriously.

^^^ I don't see how the release date means anything, this is hardly a big movie that needs a summer or Nov/Dec release. It's going in the same slot as the highly successful Cloverfield.

It will probably suck. Hollywood should let foreign movies be their own and not buy all the good ones. I am sick of this! I wanna see the movie the way it is. Let it be, Hollywood!

Hollywood should stick to adapting books and comicbooks. They have lost their creativity years ago.

Cloverfield Director Talks Let the Right One In
Source: Los Angeles Times June 29, 2009

Cloverfield director Matt Reeves talked to the Los Angeles Times about his upcoming English remake of the award-winning Swedish horror film Let the Right On In, which was based on John Ajvide Lindqvist's original novel.

"I was just hooked," Reeves told the newspaper. "I was so taken with the story and I had a very personal reaction. It reminded me a lot of my childhood, with the metaphor that the hard times of your pre-adolescent, early adolescent moment, that painful experience is a horror."

Reeves has finished a second draft of the script, now titled Let Me In. The film will be set in Reagan-era Colorado. He is scouting locations, looking to maintain the original story's chilly, snow-swept environs.

The production is also looking for the two leads, which Reeves vows will not be aged-up to make the film more of a smoldering Twilight-style romance. The story centers around Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy who finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire

like Cryptic said, this is a Hammer film. I'm behind this. Reeves shows no intention of updating the time period, or making this wimpy like Twilight. I'm sold, until i hear otherwise.

Is Let The Right One In really as great as people have said it is?

I'll see this.

I'm hope he doesnt just add more action and dumb down the value of these two outcasts coming together. He'll make better visual effects but I hope he keeps the age range of the characters young because I don't want anything close to what twilight looks to be. The innocence of the characters age is very important.

I'm more cautious of The Host remake than this...

It's pretty damn good, especially when compared to the boring and oh so cliche vampires that always have to growl and hiss before attacking or biting someone. I swear it is so ****ing lame and cheesy now days when they always have that shot of them hissing while looking at the camera or the sky before they bite someone or just attack.

Sorry for the rant but it is a damn good vampire film mainly because it's different and doesn't do what the majority of vampire films do. Only thing is, don't buy into the hype like one of the critic comments on the cover of the DVD claims it's the greatest vampire film ever made. That is a bit much but it is good. Oh yeah, it's also quite slow so make sure you don't put it on when you're really tired.

Let Me In is a terrible title.

I know it's the original title of the book or something like that, but Let the Right One In sounds cooler, more sophisticated. Let Me In is boring.

:o Sounds like the title of some porno. lol It'll be interesting to see how this turns out. I still need to watch the original.

Let the Right One In is a more accurate translation of the Swedish original title.

Oh for the love of God. Leave the original alone. It just came out last ****ing year.

It's good, but it's not THAT good. It's well made and well acted, mostly.

Just once they don't water it down or turn it into a Twilight style film I'll give it a chance. But I swear to god, if I see certain teen idols cast in this film...................:cmad:

It's cool, but it has fangless Near Dark style vampires. I do like the Barrier thing with vamp's. You don't see that used much.

Possible Let the Right One In Remake Casting
Source:The Herald-Sun July 12, 2009

Nothing irks me more than stories about actors "taking a meeting" for a role, or actors "hoping" they get a particular part, yet this news item seems fit for print.

It concerns young Kodi Smit-McPhee, the actor sharing screen time with Viggo Mortensen in The Road this fall. Smit-McPhee tells "The Herald-Sun" that he's vying for a role in Let Me In, Matt Reeves' redo of Let the Right One In. The actor's involvement isn't a done deal but he believes things are looking good.

Hammer Films and Overture are developing Reeves' project. It's due to hit the screen in 2010.

I find Cloverfield to be an extremely underrated film so I'm pretty psyched for this. It's also nice to hear Kodi might get a major role. A lot of early reviews of The Road say he's great. I still haven't seen the original, but I'm definitely going to check it out this week.

I'm fine with just watching and enjoying the original.

That's all well and good, but the fact remains that a great majority of the audience prefers "local" films, and are almost averse to any foreign product. A good thing that comes out of remakes/imaginings of international works is it allows the material to be presented to an audience that wouldn't otherwise accept it.
