Random thread, I know.

But did/does anyone else fear or hate clowns? The technical term for fearing them is Coulrophobia.

I think my hatred of them stems from me being absolutely **** scared of them when I was younger. I saw IT when I was really little, and it scared be ****less. And to make matters worse, my bedroom wallpaper was covered in, yes you guessed it...****ING CLOWNS! So I'd have a nightmare about clowns, then wake up in a room surrounded by them.

Ever wonder why I'm a little out there? Blame the clowns!

So, what is it about clowns that people find so creepy? I mean, they are supposed to bring joy to children with their bright colours and slapstick shenanigans. Where did it all go wrong?!?!

I don't hate or fear clowns, but they are remarkably creepy and as such I tend to avoid them. I think it all went wrong here:

Not for the Coulrophobic

My parents hired some "Christian" clown for my birthday when I was like 6.. "She" chased me around with some balloon monstrosity for like 10 minutes trying to capture and torture me with her balloon device.

I have feared clowns ever since.

See, clowns are evil!

Hey guys, what's going on in this thread?

I'm Coulrophobic. Have been since I was 8. Thanks, Stephen King.

So aren't the pictures like... making you wet yourself?

I totally forgot about this until I read this thread, but we had a clown doll in our house that used to really freak me out when I was about 2 or 3 yrs old. It would get stuffed away somewhere and I'd eventually come across it and have the obligatory clown doll freak out. Eventually it got chucked out.
It was a bit like that clown doll in 'Poltergeist', that part of the movie totally got to me when i first saw it.
But I haven't had a clown phobia or anything like that really since that doll when i was wee.

I saw one of those documentary interviews with Gacy years ago on tv, and they asked him about his clown career and why he would paint them etc.
He something like it was to do with having the power of anonimity(sic) behind the clown make up, no-one knows who you are and everyone loves a clown etc. Which makes sense considering what he was.

edit: Supernatural did a pretty good clown ep called 'Everyone loves a clown'. some really freaky scenes, but some also really funny.

:lmao:

I'm just saying that people have no idea what a phobia is. If they were phobic then their lives would be significantly impaired by clowns. Like that picture of JW Gacy would cause them to piss themselves and pass out.

It's pretty ****ing funny actually.

Hey, if I see a clown on TV I run out of the room screaming.

How could you not love this clown?
