Comic book characters that wouldn't work well on film

Well, I had this idea to make Mole Man like Col. Kurtz in Apocalypse Now.

"The High Evolutionary and his uplifted animals"

Have to disagree with this choice. High Evolutionary is basically a high tech version of the Island of Dr. Moreau - and that's been made into a movie at least three times. If they were true to the Kirby design - he would look fantastic!

The giant golden key to the Fortress of Solitude or the giant keyhole it goes into. I can't see that working in a serious Superman adaptation.

ya know, people kept saying Mysterio, but I actually feel like he could definitely work. Get rid of the big globe helmet, and make it a mask/helmet that looks looks more like a feature-less crystal skull. By that I mean a basic skull shape, but with no teeth, nose, eyes, etc. Use that as part of his power. Whenever he casts one of his big illusions or whatever, have the images of it start inside his skull, almost like clouded images forming in a crystal ball. I'm having trouble describing it exactly. Does anyone get what I mean?

Johann, the Ectoplasm Man in HELLBOY 2 worked just fine, and he has a dome for a head, so I see no reason why Mysterio would not work, too! Spider-Man showed us that if you stick to the original comic designs, things work out fine.

I think the Hellboy films have opened the door for a lot of strange characters to seem more acceptable to the general audiences. I can definitely see the Umbrella Academy being made now with the credibility that Hellboy has given Dark Horse, so I say bring on the campy characters and MAKE the audiences believe that they can exist in the same world as the rest of the characters.
