Adi Granov:

I think it looks great. I like the costumes, I like the mood. I really hope the movie delivers on the promise. I never expected it to be very close to the source material, nor should it be, I'll just re-read the book again... I don't need an exact replica just a decent entertaining film. Frankly, lots of fan moaning was inevitable, as it always happens when the cult property gets remade for a mainstream audience.

Mark Millar

Am very excited about this. Up there with Kingdom Come and Dark Knight as one of my three faves of all time. Was scared when I saw those costume shots a few months back, but this looks great. That mist 300 look where everything looks a bit painted gives the thing an unreal quality I'm not keen on... like it's a zero budget fan-film that couldn't afford sets... but it's a small quibble. Zack is quality. And Dave G loves it. Had a pint with him last week and he could not be happier

Ed Brubaker
And in addition to that, they showed the Watchmen trailer. I **** my pants. My jaw dropped to the floor. It's going to be amazing if it's half as good as the trailer, and from what I hear, the script was really great. It looked perfect, down to the last detail, down to Rorschach's voice, all gravelly.

I can't wait to see this movie.

Cool...I'd like to hear more reaction from some more guys.

Sorry Mark Millar. I guess everything can't look as amazing and sophisticated as Wanted.

Wait, we heard Rorschach's voice?

I dont know what Millar's talking about when he says it looks like they couldn't afford sets. This movie had tons of sets built. There's only CG for a couple scenes, like Mars.

But really, it's hard to judge based on this trailer what most of the movie will look like. This trailer really focused on the big actiony stylized shots, and it was mostly really quick cuts. It'll be interesting to see what a full scene looks like. They should give us one at Comic-Con.

Mars and Vietnam are probably the sets he's referring too. I can see where he's coming from.

Sadly, he doesn't want to agree that Wanted actaully was a disappointment.

He's a crazy Scotsman. Dont get me wrong, I think he's a great writer and usually seems like a nice guy, but come on, Millar...Wanted didnt even stick to your story. At least, Watchmen is faithful to the graphic novel.

He's probably just pissy about that whole Superman thing...

Yeah, silly low budget movie, they couldn't even afford to film on Mars!

Man, how crazy would it be if the first man to set foot on Mars was Billy Crudup?

Fixed.

Seriously, though, I think this looks very faithful and I like Snyder's visual style. So I disagree with Granov and Millar's statements on the trailer. Brubaker, as always, is on the money on this one.

I had serious reservations ... until I saw the trailer. it looks amazing.

Wait, we heard Rorschach's voice?

I think it's him that say's "The world will scream for me to save it & I'll just whisper NO" I Think as I only saw it once and was floored by it. Dr. Manhattans Mars base rising was nutz.

So can I. It's not bad, though. Just surreal.

I've come to terms with the fact that this WATCHMEN film isn't going to be WATCHMEN as I would have made it (I would have wanted much more tangible reality with stylization, ala BLADE RUNNER), but it is going to be pretty to look at. If the performances deliver, we'll have a pretty solid adaptation.

i think they are making it look like that cause Vietnam is a flash back i would assume

I also thought the the Vietnam sequence looked a bit more surreal for the same reason. The stills from the newstand and city street shots look a little more real, but I'm pretty sure the whole movie is going to have a very stylized feel.

Well, I'm sure that's part of it, but none of the film looks "real." It all has that stylized, surreal feel to it. And I'm not that big a fan. I prefer more tactile, tangible cinematic worlds.

That's not to say WATCHMEN won't be good, because I'm now thinking it will be (though I'm far from thinking it'll be an artistic masterpiece in the same way that the graphic novel is). It's just not how I would have approached it.

I kind of agree with you. I think this movie will be great, and i'm glad it's finally getting made by talented people. But i don't think it should be over stylized. People point out the Vietnam scenes as an example. Now, if i could have my way, this is what the Vietnam sequence would look like:

It would be "on location". It would open with aerial huey shots surveying the ongoing war below. In the chopper around us, we have soldiers shooting down at the enemy. "Spirit In The Sky" is the soundtrack music. Then all of a sudden, this giant blue glowing head walks by the huey and the soldiers stop firing. Dr. Manhattan walks with his arms outstretched blowing **** up by the masses, allowing US troops to advance.

We've seen it in movies hundreds of times before. But i see no reason why it couldn't work in Watchmen either. It looks so real, feels so real, and with Manhattan there, it adds a touch we've yet to see. Think about it.

I'm with you both, CrimsonMist and Agentsands77. And that's an awesome sounding scene, CM. Who knows, though? We may very well get something like that. But the idea of a familiar looking world with something totally supernatural just casually existing within it--that's cool. That's how I've always imagined Watchmen as well.

I have a feeling Snyder has a few things up his sleeve. We've barely seen anything, and we know how devoted he is to the source material. I think he's attempting to do the movie equivalent to the comic, not so much in slavishly adhering to the source material frame-to-frame--but more in taking the allegory in the sense that he's doing a "send-up" of the comic book movie. Expect some gloss here and there, and a few cliche's thrown in.

I'm just crossing my fingers he doesn't get too deep into parody territory!

I think it looks a lot like the comic book which IS stylized, especially the colors. I love how the movie is looking too.
