Has anyone been to an east coast Comic-Con/Convention? My brother and I have discussed possibly attending one in 2014. I'm curious to hear others' thoughts.

There's a couple NYCC threads around here.

I was there in 2012. It was Sunday, it was crowded, people stank.

I picked up a Batman TDKR ornament, Ashley Williams figure. Met Kevin Conroy, Kimberly Brooks (Ashley Williams Voice), Carrie Fisher and Ian Mcdiarmid.

I'd only go again if there was someone I really wanted to see.

Never been to a con. Part of that is because there are none close by, but mostly it's because being crammed into a tight space with a bunch of gross people seems hellish.

I have been to a few one day expos in Atlanta, but they're nothing like DragonCon or any of the other biggies. Those are ones I've never been to.

Oh and bring a lot of money.

Man, I would have loved to meet Kevin Conroy. Yeah, right now I'm trying to get a sense of what's happening for next year. If there isn't anyone I'm super excited to meet, I may try to save up and go to San Diego or just do something different altogether.

I've heard it can get VERY smelly...

Well the issue you run into is the changing of guests and guests being added, however you have to really book in advance, especially SD. NY is full of hotels. But you can't just plan this on a whim. All 3-4 days of a con can sell out quickly and you're lucky to get a one day pass.

If I had the loot, I'd actually consider going to the 2014 SDCC only because 2015 looks to be the most stacked summer of all-time. I'm not feeling the smelly people, though. I had no idea that was a problem until I read a Cracked article about it.

Same here. I contemplated starting a comic con in my area but have no clue on how to go about doing so.

Indeed. :o

Who actually books a room at a Con? :oldrazz:

Back in the day, my friends and I would always road trip to DragonCon in Atlanta (and a few smaller cons in the area). Whenever we needed to shower or sleep, there was always somebody who'd let you crash in their room.

Good times.

The main Con...the San Diego Comic-Con is an experience.

But I take it for granted because I'm able to go every year for free, and I don't realize how expensive it is, along a pain when it comes to getting hotel rooms and having a budget. I'm spoiled. Completely spoiled..

Did you RetrogradeOrbit make it to the new york con? i might be confusing you with someone else who said they were.

You are not confused Sir!

I did make it to the NYC Con and had a blast! I even managed to last out for 6 hours in my Spidey costume...
Have to say that the event was bigger than I imagined it would be. Wish that I had gotten a two day ticket instead.

But all in all, had the time of my life there. Best visit yet to New York and this was my third time there.

I would love to be able to afford to go the San Diego one next year.
But as I have to fly from the UK, the price of flight and hotel may be prohibitive... :csad:

Wow! How are you able to go for free? I need that job!

I'm glad to hear this about NYC Con...I think that's what I'm going to pitch to my brother.

I was wondering if anyone has been to EmeraldCon before?

I'm thinking about going at the end of the month and had a question about Photo-ops with some of the stars that are going to be there.

Mega-Con in Orlando is this Month. A few of the cast members of The Walking Dead are coming! Along with Stan Lee!

Have you been to past conventions and if so have you ever done the photo-ops with any of the stars?

I went to one, when the first Thor was coming out. No I didn't. It's soo hard to get to see the big stars, its packed everyday. I do have an awesome signed poster from Stan Lee though :)

And this guy who makes R2D2s had them roaming the convention it was pretty awesome.

I went to Mega-Con in Orlando last year and that was nuts! I can usually deal with crowds but the main hall was like packed sardines. Some really cool costumes though and some interesting panels, I enjoyed the Wil Wheaton panel. Overall, it was pretty cool but with this years lineup, I can't imagine how packed it will be this year.

I want to do the photo-op with Karl Urban but I've never done a photo-op before. I'm not sure if you have to bring your own camera that someone there will use for you or if they have some kind of professional. Past movie stars I've gotten pictures with were at horror movie conventions and it wasn't a photo-op really. They're sitting down signing autographs and will get up if you want a picture. At Emerald-Con the stars that are doing photo-ops between signings are at set times.
