Competition for Ghost Rider (The 2007 Version)

Perhaps we are overrating Ghost Rider, perhaps we're not. It really doesn't matter to most of us as we're happy enough to have to movie coming out. It doesn't matter how much it makes or doesn't make. Who cares if it bombs in the box office? Not me. I'll still go see it 5 times.... or more.

Plus, we all have a lot of faith for this movie and the crew that's involved in making it. We support them and in doing so we have to believe this movie will kick the ass of any other movie that's opening around it's time. It's part of our support structure, ya know?

That's what it's all about, really. Still, I still feel, that if done properly, this film will own.

Face it, a guy possessed by a biker demon of vengeance with a flaming skull for a head is *not* something you see in theatres every day.

Based on a comic or not, the Ghost Rider story is pretty original stuff, considering that a lot of moviegoers know next to nothing about him. Add in Nicholas Cage, and some groovy FX.....

...I think this flik is gonna make some serious bank.

You are correct and it should have a R rating.

Given that Ghost Rider is way ahead of this time fram I realy hope the decide to step it up and launch it in Late April or Early May. if they get it done and it tests well I say they bump it up to mid May, that is good time to launch comic book movies.

Especially one that is filmed in the middle of spring/summer, but the August release is close to Halloween :) :ghost:

I have a really good feeling that they'll definatly be pushing the release date to an earlier one. Them having the website up already tells me that. We may indeed get an early summer blockbuster yet folks.

It definatly has potential. People love to see new things, new images, new ideas. This is just that and I think they've assembled the best team to take control of this character. I hope they don't fail me.

Box office doesn't matter to you, but you are already proclaiming it will be an early summer blockbuster :) .

Well now the date seems to have moved to May the closest rival to GR is The Davinci code which is out May 19th,the only other big movie that could aim for a may relase is Mi-3 but i think it will most likely go for July as it doesn't start shooting until september,As for how successful GR will be ? I said a while ago his visuals will bring in the crowds and i see him as the new Terminator

So it has been moved to May ? instead of August 4th? Where did you read that at?

no yet...its still set for August. Latino Review had a set visit and heard that there was a possibility that it "could" be moved to May. Sony/Marvel wants May but i think it depends on what happens w/ X3.

Edit: here is the thread where we were talking about it...

The Any Bully is coming out on the same day as Ghost Rider. For those, who like me did not know about this movie until now, is also a Nic Cage flick. I doubt these movies will open together... Ghost Rider will be bumped, I think.

Ant Bully? i didnt see Cage's name on the credits...is he doing voice work for it?
since its an animated movie and is aimed for kids i dont think its going to be a problem for GR.
2 vastly different films and audiences.

would be really funny if alot of kids wanted to go see GR instead of Ant Bully....much to the dismay of their parents :D

That would be great.

I hope Ghost Rider steals all the audiences... including the kiddies.

Yeah, man.
Kids love monsters, everybody know that.
It will be a tough year with SUPERMAN & X3 around.
Good for all of us who have passion for the amazing comics universe.
And i really don´t care if GR would make more money than the other hero movies.
Of course, a huge box office brings a sequel and something like that, but a care about a respectful, dark, fast and raging killer western-horror movie.
To please all the hardcore fans, like us, i suppose.
But if HE beats them all, it will be a huge victory to the followers of the Spirit of Vengeance.

A huge victory indeed and something I'd love to see happen. I don't think X3 and Superman will hindle audiences from seeing this one though. They come out several months before Ghsot Rider does.

You know what? I'd really love the movie to be huge, not to break records or make zillions of dollars, but to introduce the character to the world. Most of us love Ghost Rider, but your average guy in the street wouldn't know him from Adam. I hope the film changes that and while I'm walking round town or in the office, I hear people saying, "Hey, that Ghost Rider's one super-cool dude!" I'd love it if the character I've loved for years was embraced by the whole world.

Also, I'd like to teach the world to sing. In perfect harmony, if possible.

:)

Sadly, you're probably right on that...

LOL. Singin' in perfect harmony. Nice one!

I agree with you though (both about the harmony thing and Ghost Rider). The best thing about this movie is the noteriety that the Character is finally going to get. I'd love for it to make lots of money, sealing the deal on a sequal... and, if we're really lucky, getting an ongoing series comic back. This of course would now sell like hot cakes cuz everyone loves the character.

- You, Me and Dupree is now opening on the same day that Ghost Rider is... not that I think it's going to be much competition.

I'm glad Ghostrider wasnt up against Superman Returns on the same day - but its still damn close

The October/September movies are really not competition for Ghost Rider. Its competition are the movies that come out the same weekend, the weekend after, and maybe the weekend before it. Unless a movie that came out a couple/few weekends before are doing really spectacular.

Any movies that are still in theatre when Ghost Rider comes out, or come out after it is released is competition.
