Computer Lag

Every now & then my computer starts lagging to hell when I try to open programs like Windows Media Player. Is there any way to stop this ? I have to reboot to make the lag go away

Try buying more ram, if not already maxed out.

run disk cleanup, defrag and go to start>run and type msconfig
Go to the startup tab and unselect some items that you don't need at start up, but be careful want you unselect.

Also run Spybot S&D, Adaware, and/or SuperAntiSpy.
