Hello all,
My PC pretty runs like crap. Its a DELL that i have had going on about 5 years now. It runs really slow which is my main problem. im just looking to see if it would be better to just get a new pc which i cant afford now unles maybe i sell this one...or try to improve it. for thsi i need help anyone have suggestions on how to revive my pc for optimal performance. Any questions you have i can hopefully answer them. Thanks in advance

Save everything you want and format and reinstall windows. Your pc will be tons faster :)

If you don't want to do that, you can upgrade the memory. run disk cleanup and defrag. right click on my computer and select properties and go to the advanced tab. In the performance box select settings. and change it to adjust for best performance. This will get rid of the bells and whistles of it. I do this for all of my computers. It will change your look to classic windows, but you can go in and change that then by going into display properties and selecting winXP style. if you are running XP that is.

thanx i will give that a shot i reinstalled once before so not sure if im willing to do that again

Once you reinstall....
use the website of http://www.blackviper.com

to turn off alot of Unneeded services..
I was able to turn off a crap load of services, thus freeing up more memory

i am also having problems with my dvd burner i went to the site that was provided for help but the program they supply to update it does not work...my burner always fails when trying to make a disc would a reinstall fix that?.....is the reinstall pretty much my best option?

Is it a dual layer burner?

Let me guess it will burn to about 50% and throw the error up?

My dual layer does this too. I've had people tell me that if I have multiple burning software on my computer it will do this. I also think it's because I have a single layer burner too. I just haven't gotten around to correcting anything yet.

i only have one dvd burner...and yes something like that...there are times when i even get to like 90 or so then nuthin

any thoughts on upgrading to vista?...and also any good places for cheap good pc parts such as hard drive space and the like?

Don't upgrade to Vista.

try Tigerdirect or newegg for parts.

okay thanks ...so far so good i made some changes u guys suggested and i am running a bit smoother

is there anything else out there besides that blackviper.com site?

i was kinda lost trying to read thru it

Vista is a fine operating system....don't trash it, there are all sorts of other things like registry tweaks and things

I don't usually trash an OS, but let's face it compared to XP, Vista has a long way to go. I had so many issues with it on my laptop, that I just got fed up and put XP on it and it runs like a champ now. I think when Microsoft gets off their butt and really digs into Vista and works out all the bugs, then it will be a good OS.

Vista now...compared to what it was when it was released, night and day...
lets get off the vista kick here...

kick it to the curb...haha Besides if his computer is old and sluggish now, he may only 512 to 1GB of Ram, it may not be able to utilize Vista to it's full potential.
