[BGCOLOR=rgb(255, 255, 255)]Based on Robert Harris’ best-selling novel, [COLOR=var(--xe--block-container--link--color)]Conclave[/COLOR] is directed by Berger from a screenplay written by Peter Straughan. The film stars Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Carlos Diehz, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Merab Ninidze, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini.[/BGCOLOR]

[BGCOLOR=rgb(255, 255, 255)]“The papal conclave, held to elect a new Pope, is the world’s most secretive event. After the death of a beloved Pope, Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process inside the back corners of the Vatican,” reads the synopsis. “Lawrence quickly finds himself the center of a conspiracy, as the cardinals forge factions and rivalries to serve their own ambitions. As ambitions, divisions and scandals start to boil over and the political machinations inside the Vatican intensify, Lawrence realizes that the departed Pope had kept a secret from them that he must uncover before a new Pope is chosen.”[/BGCOLOR]

Sounds pretty interesting, especially with the setting.

Some similarities to Angels & Demons sprung to mind while reading the synopsis. Very intrigued.

Really enjoyed this one. Political thriller with good pacing, twists and Ralph Fiennes is leading amazingly. People may be split on that ending though.

Not sure how i feel about this one. I dont mind a good talky thriller with intrigue and shady goings-on happening, i love movies like that. This was very well filmed, acted and staged …but when the credits rolled i was just sort of like “huh?” Thats it? The “twist” had going “ookayyy…?” And then i dunno i dont feel like the movie actually climaxed from a plot standpoint.

Same. Maybe because I'm not religious, but I didn't feel invested in anything that happened. It probably didn't help that what I expected to happen (Fiennes being behind everything in his pursuit for power) seems more interesting than what we actually got.

You don't have to be religious to see it directly compares the conclave to the US elections and politics (Tedesco being far right & Bellini being far left).

And Benitez being the Jesus figure.

Just saw the trailer, looks really well crafted with a stellar cast and unique setting.

My wife and I really enjoyed this. Fiennes is great and I'd be happy if he won an Oscar for it.

I think I would've preferred a more predictable ending where Lawrence became the Pope. The twist didn't add much other than being a total shock in the moment, but once that wore off it just kinda happened and then the movie was over. But it's a minor nitpick.

Thats how I feel about the ending too.

It starts streaming on December 13th.

ready to rewatch just for this diva :o

I watched this over the weekend. Just from the trailer I didn't think I'd be into this but it was a good one. Fiennes was amazing and the ending was awesome.
