I just found an excellent, in-depth analysis/review of this movie by Confused Matthew (warning, contains strong language). Matthew even responses to James Rolfe (AKA The Angry Video Game Nerd) posting a more favorable review:

I agree with almost everything, however, this annoyed the hell out of me about this guy:

He calls Gwen Stacy "that girl" "Peter's date". Okay, so he is not a Spider-Man fan and that proves it. But did he miss the name Gwen Stacy completely?!

Plus, Spidey thought he killed Marko, now that's a bad thing. Also, he says that throwing a bomb at Harry is good?! What? I mean, sure I can agree that Harry terrorized Peter way too much and he had enough but risk Harry's life? Spider-Man is a superhero, he doesn't want to hurt the people he loves. And he certainly doesn't want to risk the villains lifes. But since he had the symbiote making him do "bad things", it's understandable that he threw that bomb at Harry. So it was bad. Now, the rest of him doing "bad things" I can agree with.

And about those 2 bombs and one killing Eddie and turning him into a skeleton. Did nobody care about those board members turning into skeletons in the first film at all? Goblin has different kinds of bombs, however, I could understand that most of the audience that doesn't now anything about Spider-Man will know this but seriously, no one remembers the board members in the first film turning into skeletons when Goblin threw a bomb at them?

Some of this guy's points are as contrived as the plot points he's trying to rubbish.

His Star Wars prequel reviews are even worse.

The guy nitpicks at alot of stupid stuff. I always thought that way about the whole "bomb" thing, though. Harry gets hit with a bomb and he gets a few scars. Eddie and the symbiote meanwhile, get blasted to the point where their ashes don't even exist? Even in the first film,Spidey takes a bomb to the face with no scar at all. Hmmm.
I guess Raimi wanted to make sure Venom would never return, for his series anyway. :cmad:

The one nitpick from Matthew's that I found to be a bit too silly is the one concerning Mary Jane's singing (and whether or not that was actually Kirsten Dunst's actual singing voice). I mean, since when did Kirsten Dunst become a contestant on Confused Matthew's own American Idol? To me, that was purely nitpicking just for the sake of nitpicking. That would be just like complaining about the usage of stunt doubles or liberal usage of CGI during the action sequences.

Well thinking back to the first film I think the Goblin has different types of bombs (think of those poor board members!)

What takes the cake in this review is the way he doesnt seem to think that tossing a bomb at your best friend and lashing out at your girlfriend are bad things:wow:

Confused Matthew indeed.

Matthew's point about Peter throwing a pumpkin bomb back at Harry was that it should be justifed since Peter was evidentally, reacting in self-defense.

Confused Matthew made one of the best, indepth reviews of Spider-man 3 because it very clearly points out why the movie is horrible. As far as the angry video game nerds review, he should stick to reviewing old games because his defense of the movie sounds like a 12 yr old.

You can't defend garbage cause at the end of the day it's still garbage. People can defend SM3 till they are blue in the face. The bottom line is that it's KNOWN for being almost as horrible as Batman and Robin.

There's quality writing and storytelling just as there is trashy novels and crittically acclaimed novels. You're free to like whatever you like but at least be smart enough to admit that what you like is trash. SM3 falls into that category.

Really?

LOL.

Just because you don't agree with someone's review makes him wrong? Killing Joker, you are on my list of people not to take seriously.

It is my opinion that he is wrong.

Happy?

Geez....Now, pretty please, take me off you wittle list :( It makes me so sad :whatever:

It's known for being "thankfully not as bad as Batman & Robin."

Not movies as bad as Batman and Robin.

Yeah but they make crap sequels out of movies that were crap to begin with and that was the point.

You could take Britney Spears Crossroads and it would look like an Oscar winner next to Batman and Robin so that doesen't really say much to defend SP3. Nothing is as bad as that piece of steaming dung. SP3 is in the same ballpark though :)
