So far I've been feeling fairly good about what we have been seeing in the trailers but there's one detail that has been kind of bugging me.

Basically, this thing of Banner controling the Hulk. I'm not sure how the movie is going to approach it but if it ends with Banners mind driving the Hulks body I'll be very dissapointed.

I think it'd be a shame when the movie seems to be doing so much else right. I was never big on that idea in the comics either because if Banner can control the Hulk then the story is basically over. He's now a big green Superman with Reed Richards intellect. Also what about the Hulk himself? You basically lose that character. Banner's found his cure, The End.

Yes he still becomes the Hulk but really if he can turn it on and off or control it then the problem is basically solved and there's no real reason to continue.

But then again maybe the movie will approach this idea in a different way and "control" is not so literal.

SPOILERS

He doesn't outright control him.

Throughout the film, when he's the Hulk, everything is loud, noisy, hard to see, blurry, etc.

When he accepts the Hulk, it becomes a little clearer, he's able to slightly suggest a direction (implied in the film), but ultimately the Hulk is his own person who controls himself.

Or to put it another way.

Betty can plead and talk to him, and it's up to Hulk if he'll go along with the idea, but he'll at least have a little more of an open mind when it comes to her.

Told you that people would be speculating what that scene means.

Could it mean that Banner can control his transformations so he can become Hulk at will or does it mean that Hulk can control the transformations... who knows!

But my theory is different...

Banner is searching for a cure in the movie right. To start off with, Hulk is a mindless beast, he is just really angry and smashing anything or anybody in sight, not really understanding what is happening. His mind is confused as he see's everything in an acid trip situation. The world looks horrible to Hulk and he hates it, the lights, sounds, etc...

But then after the cure attempt, Hulk starts to see things clearer. Everything isn't as blurry or static as before. Hulk is now smarter, Hulk is slightly more controlled by Banner. He is not mindless anymore, he is savage. So Hulk can talk and recognise people clearly now whereas before he had slight trouble knowing who Betty was.

So to make it short. Before the cure attempt, it is 100% Hulk. Banner see's nothing, everything is clouded to him as it is to Hulk. But after the cure attempt it is like 90% Hulk and 10% Banner. Banner can see past the cloud and everything is clearer to Hulk now.

So Hulk is controlled but not enough where Banner is in complete control.

So when you see the Hulk in the bottling plant in Brazil or the college campus scene, he is a mindless type Hulk who doesn't really care what gets in his way. He will just get rid of it.

But after the failed cure attempt, there is some very little of Banner in him so now he is more of a savage Hulk who can talk and such and would not harm others etc...

I agree with Cth. In the comics Banner never fully controlled the Hulk. But on the time of transformation whatever Banner was feeling a threat from was a catalyst for the Hulk to act upon. Also, don't let Betty be in danger or else it's lights out; Hulk to the third power. Remember that the Hulk is a second personality of Bruce, with it's own ideas and will, but still link to Bruce.

I think the control has more to do with Banner deciding when to become the Hulk, and less with Banner controlling Hulk's body.

Ok...

Banner performs yoga in this movie right at the beginning to help him control the transformations. Meaning when he starts to get angry he can qucikly control his anger not become the Hulk.

Then we see the scene where Banner is meditating and then we see him with the green eyes and a smile on his face. Why would Banner meditate to become Hulk? Why would Banner even be smiling that he is going to change?

Could it be that Hulk has control of Banner now? Hulk can make Banner transform at will? Is it Hulk that is smiling? Could there be a new personaltity? Grey Hulk? Who knows!

Speculation.....

Alot of that stuff they seem to be lifting from Bruce Jones run on the book, he had Banner doing Yoga and searching for a "Mr. Blue" who turned out to be Betty Ross, among other things. I actually have a feeling that if they do get to make a sequel, they'd probably try to introduce another version of the Hulk, maybe Joe Fixit or the Professor, which could work, and maybe not. I, for one, think stuff like that may only add to the confusion of certain people, but I'd be all for it

Also that bit with him smiling. Please tell me they aren't gonna run with that stupid "I start to like it" BS from Ang Lee's Hulk. If he starts liking it then again the major conflict is gone and in addition Banner looks like a asshat for getting off on his power.

Banner and Hulk eventually always "come together". It's just a matter of time before it all goes to crap. We have 40+ years of comics that cement that concept.

So many comics... so little time. :csad:

I've never liked the idea of Banner being able to control his transformation into Hulk, but i like the idea of Hulk being able to control Banner! That would mean he (Hulk) would be able to stay in his Hulk form alot longer.
