What do you think of the costumes?

  • PERFECT!

  • They're good, they could have been alittle more faithful.

  • They work I guess.

  • I hate them.

The costumes look great, particularly Silk Spectre's. I really don't see what the fuss is about Ozymandias and Nite Owl's costumes, they look perfectly fine. Some degree of interpretation is important for the film adaptation, it doesn't have to be spot-on.

If the film is as good as the costumes, then you won't hear people complaining about the "nipples" on Ozymandias anymore.

I'm completely speechless about how it seems more people have taken issue with Ozy's costume then Night Owl's costume. The headgear looks ridiculous with just a couple of horny protrusions sticking out the sides of his head as opposed to a large slender head piece and drape over cape. He resembled an owl to a much greater degree in the comic. Ozy's suit I think is at least passable because its just supposed to be a conglomeration of greek and egyptian styles, which it is.

Probably true. However, I wanted gold, damnit!

He has tons of gold on him, man. What color do you think that is all across his shoulders? The picture's a step away from being black and white, so it's kinda ridiculous to assume that his costume itself is just black and white.

I thought it was black and silver. My mistake. The picture still has dull colors, though.

He never actually "resembled an Owl". He resembled a man in a stylized mask with a "hood" draping behind it. Most owls have fat little heads with "horns" that give them that "hood" look. But the movie helmet's horns stick about as far out from his head as a real owl's does. He's a man with a vague owl motif, not a man trying to look like an owl.

I hope his cloak has that "feathering" design on it.

Would people happier if it looked like this???

He looks more like a bat crossed with a man.

....kind of like.....A BATMAN!!!!

Closerframe, I find it favorable but Im over it.

Balthus, I dont think he looks like abat at all

That probably will be what he looks like without the color saturation. Just replace the purple body parts with a nice ebony. It's actually a very nice combination. Gold, black, and purple. Very regal. Also offers up a nice contrast since he has a black body but this pale white head and probably hands too.

I'll change my vote to They're good, they could have been a little more faithful.

On the contrary, I rather like Oz's costume. I will go on record and say I think the rubber suit for this character is an improvement over the garment he wears in the comic book(which was my least favorite Crimebuster costume). My only gripes with his costume is that the rubber suit should be more form-fitting to his body. And the colors are too muted in that picture, I hope the golds and purples are more vibrant in the actual film because that promotional photo of Oz has almost been given the '300' treatment.

The Nite Owl's costume looks good but I would have preferred it was less shiny and metallic. I also will miss the cloth on the back of his cowl but not too much, I'm just fine with what we've got, I like it. My only gripe here is that his goggles are rectangle when they should be round. With that said, his crotch area is also a bit small.

Rorschach, Silk, Comedian, all look fantastic.

That is simply not true. The costumes are very important in the novel as they comment on, and, provide visual clues to 50+ years history of comics and history in general, as a matter of fact. Nite Owl I's costume is obvious homage to The Phantom, as Dollar Bill's is to Superman. Hooded Justice's costume draws visual parallels with Klu Klux Klan's own brand of hooded justice etc.

I'll grant that for some of the characters, what their specific costume looks like is important. Although in my original post I wasn't referring to Dollar Bill, or HJ or Nite-Owl 1 (we haven't seen these, so nobody's complaining about them... yet), just these Crimebusters ones, which arguably don't have the same historical significance that some of the others do. But I do see your point... so instead of "not important" I'll say "not that important". However, I still think that the most important thing Moore had to say about the costumes had to do with the absurdity of them, and the psychological implications for the people who wear them... and this can be achieved with the movie costumes. Agree to disagree, I guess?

Also, @AgentSands: Yeah, I guess there could've been a little more of a period feel with these Crimebuster costumes, I agree. (Although judging by Dollar Bill, we'll be getting the period look for the Minutemen) I'm not saying the costumes are perfect by any means, although I do like them. But some people have looked at Nite-Owl and decided that the movie's gonna be a bastardization, which I think is taking things a bit too far.

I guess my earlier post came off as a bit more ranty than I intended. I apologize.

where is ozymandias's mask? and will there be a hooded justice apperance?

where is ozymandias's mask?

Well, a) he only wears it for a short period of time (I actually think we only see him with the mask at the Crimebusters meeting; correct me if I'm wrong) and b) this is a promo pic.

and will there be a hooded justice apperance?

I hope so, but I don't know. He isn't in any of the earlier scripts.

I haven't read it in a while, but I think that's the only place he wears it as well. We really need some Watchmen smilies...:)

I'm sure that they did that so people could speculate about the colors of the costume, etc.

Rorschach looks so great.

If a bat had lazy, lopsided ears, sure.

So he looks like a lazy bat. Kind of like Golden Age Batman, with smaller horns.

I just wish they stuck with the comics on the cowl and did the slender crown piece that blends into the cape at the back. Instead they just stuck some pointy ears on him. That's not very "owly" to me, but the comics representation really represented the design of an owl. Not to mention it looked unique, whereas this really does remind one quite a bit of Batman.
