The same blog that reported that Ghostbusters 3 is in consideration to be shot in 3D is now reporting on another interesting rumor. Market Saw says that a "top source" tells them another Gremlins movie is in the very early stages with the intent to shoot it in stereoscopic 3D. While it's not clear if this would be a remake of the original Gremlins or a proper Gremlins 3 sequel, the report indicated that it's definitely not a conversion of the original film into 3D.

Of note, the blog speculates that the idea of a 3D Gremlins movie isn't far fetched considering Joe Dante's latest feature The Hole has been getting critical praise and is also in 3D.

Should Dante return to helm another Gremlins movie? In 3D no less? That original is still a holiday classic. What do you guys think?

Just like the Ghostbusters 3D story, consider this rumor until we hear otherwise.

I'm all for a 3rd one as long as its done with the puppets, but really 3D. Its just like their trying darts at a list of movies and saying lets make this in 3D.

Yes, it needs to be a proper sequel and done with puppets. So long as that happens I'm cool.

Quite frankly I don't see the need for puppets, except for some kind of nostalgia factor.
5-10 years ago I would've probably agreed (about using puppets), but I think CG gremlins would look amazing if done today.

Am I the only one who loves Gremlins 2? I actually went with some friends to see the first Gremlins at a midnight screening, and yes, it doesn't try to play on suspense and horror, but at the end of the day, it's more satirical, and just downright funny. It's a total 50s matinee b-movie with monsters overunning a small town, but in such a self-referencial and humorous slant to it, that it doesn't bother me when the sequel decided to be more of a full-blown comedy, even making fun of the original film (in particular, Phoebe Cates trying to tell another supposedly traumatizing story from her childhood, and being cut off by Billy, or Leonard Maltin giving a bad review to the first film, and the Gremlins showing up to kill him!).

No, I liked the second one as well. And the one scene about the woman coming out the theater coming to complain to the manager about the movie. The director said that's something that really happen in real life about the first movie. Cause people were shocked by what it was.

3D is the new black.

That said, I enjoyed both Gremlins movies and wouldn't curse indiscriminately if they went through with this.

If this means more Phoebe Cates, then :up:

Of all the remakes, and 3D movies.

This is too soon?

Finally! Long Overdue for a new Gremlins movie!?

What happend to Billy? Is he still Acting?

She still acts? Haven't seen her in a movie or TV

I have no idea, but I wouldn't want a Gremlins movie without her.

I still have a stuffed Gizmo that I kept to this very day, man. Do it.

She's been married to Kevin Kline for a while, and I think she's just been focusing on raising their family.

It would be a shame if she wasn't involved in a new film. Kate and Billy should have a college-aged child by now that could be the major focus.

And he's the one that takes care of Gizmo really then?

Or "she". Even with the original film, having watched it just this past weekend, the idea of a parent giving their 20-something son a cuddly animal as a present is a bit of a stretch.

It did happen - Gremlins was one of the movies that led to the creation of the PG-13 rating.

Oddly enough, I was allowed to see Gremlins in the theater that summer but I wasn't allowed to see Ghostbusters.

I still love both Gremlins movies...as long as we don't get CGI gremlins, I'll be happy with a new film.

Yeah, that and temple of doom resulted in the new PG-13 rating. Yeah, somethings don't need CGI'ed. A better puppet design maybe, but that's pushing it also.

In the one version of the script he was suppose to be like 15 or so. Which what explain whu his best friend was a 14 year old. Plus I think he was more a less a bit younger like 17 or 18 and had just gotten out of high school, which is why he would go to the teacher at the school.

I think CG would be fine, but not for every gremlin. Mostly for certain shots or a combo for facial expressions a la Wild Things.

i think that's why Gizmo was so damn..cute; that he looked like a stuff animal and the animatronics really helped.

So would Howie Mandel voice Gizmo again?

I would assume he would come back if asked. I know he's got the game show thing going on.
