So rumours have been spreading everywhere that DC is continuing a weekly series after 52.

From Newsarma; here's the Countdown solicit as it appears in the Diamonds Retailer Preview:

The event of the year is here! This brand-new, year-long weekly series features a
cast of hundreds where anything goes! With head writer Paul Dini and a rotating team of
some of the industry’s best writers and artists, COUNTDOWN will serve as the backbone
of the DCU in 2007.
When a character dies in COUNTDOWN 51, it sets off an unexpected ripple that
will touch virtually every character in the DC Universe.
The COUNTDOWN is on…so begins the end!

COUNTDOWN 48 on sale May 30

I'm sure DC will confirm this at NYCC.

Not sure how I feel... I kind of don't want another weekly series that soon after 52. But 52 has been great but are DC just tempting fate?

another one dies? or is it one of the characters we expect to die during 52? is it the titan that is going to die? is it starfire?

HA! IM THE MAN! its Starfire!

Wow. I don't know if I really care to read yet another weekly tie-in to yet another major event from DC. Drawing IC out over a few years and weaving it organically from one event to another was cool and all, but this is getting ridiculous.

it somehat looks to be a ripooff of IC ..
IC started with the murder of Ted kord.. and again another cape gets killd thats starts off a chain of events..

(ok ok IC really started with IDCrisis)

Oh... DC is going to kill another character... what a big surprise.

Yeah, I need more than that to invest in it. The price point isn't helping either.

I've been buying 52, but I'm not going to get another series just so I can watch them kill of one of my favorite characters. I'll probably stop buying DC altogether if they kill Starfire off.

I mean, i'll be perfectly honest, while 52 has been good, if it was any other title, I would have dropped it a long time ago. I really didnt see the point of dropping it after buying 30 issues of it.

DC should be happy that they were able to have 52 be such a success, as is. It hasn't been late, a very big accomplishment, and has kept a stable audience.

I'm definitely not buying this. I've gotten a little turned off from the big event, and the price hike really doesn't warm it to me more.

is this what the teaser picture was for?
and who can hate this when Dini is head writer?

I mean, how do we know this title wont lead to another weekly series called Random Number Count!

It really depends what's going to be involved with it for me.

Say if they mention Kyle Rayner and Donna Troy are going to be the major players - then I'm sold. It was the same with the 52 characters for me with the likes of Booster, Animal Man, Question and Ralph (whether they live or die at the end).

I think we can start taking bets on which JLI or Infinity Inc character is dying though.

I completely feel the dredge though, it just feels never ending.

yeah im not touching this. so far for me 52 and IC has been a big rip-off. IC was suppose to destory the multiverse then they come out with a 52 weekly series that lets out that the multiverse still exists. then they make it a priority not to solve the damn mystery within the weekly series. instead they give me an average weekly issue. the first weeks leading up to boosters death were great. but 52 has been a big let down. it has soo much more potential, they didnt even use it.

52 could've used all the great obscure characters or popular ones( metal men, ambush bug, animal man, steel, etc) solve the return of the multiverse within the series using these characters. now it looks like they're not gonna solve anything in 52,they're going to come out with another weekly series, that god knows what explains.

the montoya, ralph dibny, and steel arcs have been pretty freakin pointless. enjoyable for the most part, but still pointless.

**** that.

Really, were towards the end of 52, and I didnt even realize how long its been. Its been fun picking up a comic every week, but I really do think DC is milking it now, and people talk about Marvel's 8 billion CW tie-ins.

Didn't DC say that the world would be "brighter" post IC? They've killed quite a number of characters during and after the event... not to mention the total raping of more than a couple of characters.

so in other words.. IC is not over yet?
if the events in Titans Tomorrow is still the future then alot more will die..
Future Tim said ALOT of heroes died in the crisis..

titans tomorrow is a possible future! and johns has said some of the events will come true. not all. and so far everything in 52 has been a big fake out. booster is still alive and so is animal man. only real death was the question.

Basically, DC is going to play lips service to the "Brighter Universe" while continuing to kill characters left and right.

This is pretty much how I feel as well. It's been fun to read this every week(I started on week 12) but another weekly comic sounds like too much. 52 has had quite a few weeks where you didn't need to read them. The thing that has really helped 52 is that you know it has an end.

Another thing, as much as I love 52, I'm looking forward to the extra space/cash on my pull list when 52 ends. Countdown really has to wow me for me to consider buying.

$2.99 is strike three.:csad:

DC should not be killing anymore heroes.

Countdown might be a great series, but I won't know until we hear more how I'll feel about it. Depends on which characters they use. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, since DC has a pretty good track record with 52.

The price hike is stupid.

I'd be all for this if it were $2.50 and didn't come out so immediately after 52. A few months breather guys, geez

Oh shizzle, I just saw that Beechen is writing a week! I definitely won't be getting this now. Man, that dude sucks more than Bendis, Mackie, and Austen put together. :o
